Inter Miami CF v Hong Kong
Eight-time Ballon d’Or Winner Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF, the David Beckham co-owned US Football team, will take on Hong Kong as part of their first international tour.
The match, part of the first Tatler XFest, is on 4 February at the Hong Kong Stadium and tickets priced from $880 up to $4,880 go on sale on 15 December.
Announcing the match Beckham said “Hong Kong has such a great sports scene. In partnership with Tatler, we are pleased to be able to bring the team to this fantastic city as part of Inter Miami’s debut game in Asia.”

As the police watched on videoing fans to ensure patriotic complaiance over 12,000 were on hand at the Hong Kong Stadium for Hong Kong‘s first home game in front of HongKongers since 2019.
Poor finishing denied the home team and its supporters a chance to really celebrate as coach Jorn Andersen’s new look team spurned chance after chance.
“I want to be positive, we played a really good game,” Andersen said. “The first half was excellent. We attacked a lot, we created a lot, we defended high, we won the ball high and were creating chances. But today we were not so lucky and that’s why I’m not so happy today. We couldn’t make the goal that the Hong Kong fans wanted to see today.”
“We got very big support from the spectators. They pushed us to the front and we tried our best, but at the end we couldn’t make that first goal to make everyone happy. I’m sorry for that,” Andersen added.
In reality, while a win would have been nice the score was irrelevant; that fans could finally watch their team in person meant everyone was a winner.

Kitchee Advance in Asian Champions League
Kitchee became the first Hong Kong team ever to reach the AFC Champions League knock-out stage. An injury-time equaliser secured a 2-2 draw on Sunday with Vissel Kobe.
When Yoshinori Muto scored in the 87th minute to put Vissel 2-1 ahead, Kichee’s chance of progressing looked remote. But as they have done throughout the tournament Kitchee dug deep and Raul Baena scored with a header in the 91st minute to earn the point needed to progress.

Hong Kong Win HK-Guangdong Cup 4-2 on Penalties
Tse Long-hin scored the crucial penalty as Hong Kong won the 40th Hong Kong-Guangdong Cup 4-2 on penalties. After winning the first leg 2-0 at the HK Stadium on the 4 January, Hong Kong lost the second leg away as Guangdong reversed the score at home as they triumphed 2-0 in Guangzhou.

With the match all square after normal time goalkeeper Douglas Yuen Ho-chun – who made several fine saves during the game – was the star in the penalty shoot-out saving twice as Hong Kong won 4-2 and regained the Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup for the first time in five years.
“The boys performed really well under the circumstances,” said interim Hong Kong coach Kenneth Kwok Ka-lok. “We are a young side and some of the players were suffering from injuries and even illness so that made it more difficult. But we had fire in our bellies and we handled the pressure, even in the penalty shootout where we held our own. We rose to the occasion. It wasn’t an easy thing to do.”

Hong Kong beat Singapore 2-0 in an international friendly at Mong Kok Stadium. Alex Akande got the hosts on their way with a clinical strike four minutes before the break. A powerful drive from Huang Yang in the 70th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
Irfan Fandi, the eldest son of Singapore legend Fandi Ahmad, made his debut as the visitors showed plenty of energy and initiative in the opening exchanges. However, the home team gradually forced their way into the contest. In the 33rd minute, catching the defence napping, Sandro threaded a neat through-pass to Akande. But Lions’ keeper Izwan Mahbud was alert to the danger, and raced off his line to deny the Kitchee striker.
Hong Kong broke the deadlock eight minutes later when Lam Ka Wai lofted the ball between two Singaporean defenders and into the path of Akande who did well to control the bouncing ball before coolly firing into the far corner.
Buoyed at taking the lead, and with the majority of the 4,136 fans cheering them on, the hosts looked the likelier of the two sides to score after the break. Singapore did have an opportunity to equalise in the 69th minute when the lively Iqbal Hussain latched onto Shakir Hamzah’s cross only to blast wide of the near post.
A minute later and Hong Kong scored their second. Roberto’s floated pass was nodded down by Jaimes McKee to Akande, who turned provider by laying the ball off for Huang to drill an unstoppable effort past Izwan.
Deep into injury-time, Singapore had a chance to pull a goal back as Iqbal forced Yapp into a flying reflex save that denied the Lions an opportunity to salvage some pride with a consolation goal.
