Vision Hong Kong Photo Competition 2006
Theme : Fresh

Now in its third year, our Vision Hong Kong Photo Competition attracted more than 200 entries. Interpretations of the “Fresh” theme were varied and imaginative. We are pleased to congratulate Lee Holloway for her winning image of ‘Bird Flu On a Bicycle,’ which graces the cover of this issue. Lee also picks herself up a Nikon Coolpix S5 6MP digital camera for her efforts. Congratulations, too, to the runners-up – Nick Southward, who gets a 1GB iPod nano, and Nysreen El-Mahmound, winner of a 1GB memory card. Thanks to everyone who entered – you’re all winners in our mind. But you don’t get prizes.

Mr.Invisible
The room is pitch black, the only sound a dull hum. Edging into the space and brushing against something rough, you gasp loudly. The drone grows as you move deeper into the dark; then you hear it. Your gasp. Only this time, you didn’t make it. You focus in on the darkness – and there it is again. That gasp, repeated, whipped into the now ever-changing texture of overlapping sounds.

Building Consenus
There are four parts to the band Kim Tak Building, but it would be wrong to call them separate. The four prefer to be known as a group – not individuals. So you don’t need to know that the band is three guys and a girl; that they are 33, 30, 26, and 26; that they are photographers, a construction worker and a soon-to-be teacher. All that is incidental. When one speaks, it’s the whole band speaking.hen one speaks, it’s the whole band speaking.

Meeting Ning Nao
Ning Hao leans back in his seat, arms folded, waiting and watching, his legs stretched out. Notebooks and pens are hurriedly fumbled for, found and laid out; a slim recording machine is positioned next to him; a small camera placed gingerly on the table in front. He eyes the fuss with an air of dissatisfaction and, as the interview begins, answers questions with sighs, as if there are a million more interesting things in the world to be getting on with.
