MUNCH it

Help Ted Baker butter up his mum at her 80th birthday extravaganza on October 8. The dandy tailor keeps her working at his British Covent Garden branch while he oversees stores across the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, so it’s about time he threw her a bumper bash. The funkster’s latest fashion spread – a mixture of old school Brit with a wicked twist for ladies and gents – will be set up alongside mum’s XXL birthday cake, and heads up a whole collection of young trendy stores hitting Harbour City.

Beatles fans will appreciate Raymond Newman’s hard work – an e-book celebrating this year’s 40th anniversary of the making of Revolver. Where did Paul McCartney get the idea for Eleanor Rigby? Who taught George Harrison to play the Sitar? Who gave John Lennon his first LSD? Raymond’s no fact-hungry journo, just a fact-hungry fan, but this in-depth e-book delves deeper than most.

SPREAD it

What do you get when you cross fine cut Seville oranges with Whyte & Mackay’s vintage Dalmore 62 whisky, a splash of Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 1996 vintage champagne, and a sprinkle of 24-carat gold leaf flakes? A ludicrously expensive marmalade. F Duerr & Sons’ 125th anniversary spread costs £5,000 (HK$73,500) and is served in a crystal jar valued at £1,100. At that rate, it’d cost you about £80 to spread on a single slice of toast.

POCKET it
Measuring 6.7cm in length and weighing just 55g, the new Xun Chi 138 cellphone is probably small enough to fit in your wallet. The tiny piece – rumoured to be manufactured in Shenzhen – has no numeric keypad, instead offering a toothpick-sized wand to select functions from the miniscule touch-screen. It does, however, manage to squeeze in a 1.3MP camera, MP3 player, and USB connectivity. Check it out at www.phonedaily.com.hk

FACE it
You wouldn’t think being led into a small room to be doused with water and given a series of electric shocks would be good for your face – but the good people at Aqua Skin Therapy (Level 6, On Lan Centre, 11 On Lan St, Central, 2869 5002) swear it is. Using swanky Japanese technology, a therapist will give you a gown, lie you down, and apply gentle electric currents to your visage to open up the pores and bring gunk to the surface. Your skin is flushed with pure water, before you’re treated to a gentle shiatzu massage. It’s all very relaxing and bloody hard to not to fall asleep. Promo offer: $350 for 75-minute treatment ($850 normal).
