backside

Mack, events
The beach - no special one in particular. And I go hiking and camping in Sai Kung.

Jo, legal secretary
There isn’t one is there? People go to Macau… Clearwater Bay is a nice day out if you get up early. I’d go for a hike in Lantau, but it’s a pain in the arse getting there.
Wilson, seasonal decoration
Wakeboarding in Sai Kung, or in winter I do war games.

Louise,
also a
legal secretary

Gold Coast, I suppose. I would like to go to Mai Po marshes.

Jeff, event management
Watching movies, or go to the pub.

Tung Chung is no longer just a no-man’s land stop on the way to Chep Lap Kok. For land lovers (and day trippers), it’s now the gateway for the Ngong Ping Skyrail. Despite a few mishaps at the beginning, the suspended cars are running more smoothly, giving the opportunity for stunning views of Lantau’s mountains, the prize at the end being Big Buddha in all his golden glory. Skip the Skyrail home, and take the eight-kilometre hike from Ngong Ping into the valley below. It’s a good chance to clear body and mind of the smog-filled city as the trail takes in woodland streams, mountain forests and lonesome monasteries. But Tung Chung also offers bargain-hunters exciting times, with plenty of brand name prices slashed at Citygate’s outlets (20, Tat Tung Rd, 2109 6600). Start with something sweet at Haagen Daz and then top up your wardrobe at Nike, Levi’s, Esprit and Quicksilver, although if you are headed for the airport, you’ll probably need a new suitcase to boot. You can pick that up at Samsonite.
