Sea Sprints
Windsurfers will be hoping for some strong gusts on 16 and 17 December for the HKG Circuit – Kowloon Championships in a circuit race at Sha Ha in Sai Kung. The championships are organized by the Windsurfing Association of Hong Kong, on whose website wannabe champs will find ‘cyber learning’ of the rules for windsurfing racing.

Wheels a Go-go
There aren’t many places in Hong Kong for inline or roller skating but many a skater will be buckling up for the upcoming Roller Speed Skating Open Championships 2006. As it says, speed not tricks counts on this hard-surface soccer pitch – and balance, of course. Who wants to go crashing onto a solid surface moving at the speed of a set of roller wheels? The championship is organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Roller Sports.

Bounding Down the Beach
The Southern District Harriers are claiming their share of Hong Kong’s sun and sand for a run in mid-December. The course for the Southern District Beach Run is a 5km stretch from Repulse Bay Beach to Deep Water Bay via Seaview Promenade. Kids and teenagers are welcome to join in; the smaller children will simply run along Repulse Bay Beach, but older entrants will compete over added distances.

The Last Stand
In table tennis, both China’s men’s and women’s teams are the current world champions, so the Volkswagen Pro Tour Grand Finals on 17 December should attract a huge crowd of fans from both HK and the mainland. The finals include men’s and women’s singles and doubles as well as U21 boys’ and girls’ singles and will decide the winner of this year’s ITTF Pro Tour Tournament. The best table-tennis players from both Hong Kong and many other parts of the world will be competing for HK$38,000 for singles winners and HK$10,000 for doubles.

Kart Mania
Somewhere on many top motor racing drivers resumes is their time in Karting, It’s often the first, easiest and cheapest exposure you can get to motor racing. A chance to show-off your speed, catch the eye of the sponsors and hone your skills. An afternoon’s fun for you and me is fiercely competitive racing on the Karting Circuit. Now in its third year the Macau International Kart Grand Prix features 229 drivers from 22 countries racing in a variety of classes. Racing in the Formula 60 category is the youngest competitor 7 year old Christian Gaddi from the Philippines. Also from the Philippines is the only female driver, ICA overall champion 17-year-old Michele Marie Bumgarner, now also a fast rising star on the Asian Formula 3 circuit. As well as the AKOC events there’s also a special invitational event featuring some of the best Formula A karters in the world including European Champion Marco Ardigo.
