Check out Temple Bar (Bsmt C, 41 Staunton Street, entrance off Peel Street, Soho) nestled just beneath the Chinese Temple on Peel Street. This sleek looking bar is sure to provide you with some ‘religious experiences’.

Newly opened wine bar Tivo (Shop D&E, G/F Yu Yuet Lai Building, 43-55 Wyndham Street, Central, 2116 8055) is a sleek looking venue with wood panelling, brown leather interior occasionally punctuated by animal hide (are they faux? we hope so…). Offering a choice of 15 wines by the glass for both red and white varieties, and over 50 bottles this will be the perfect atmosphere to unwind after work and grab a light snack to accompany your wine.

Keep a lookout for Stella Artois’ ‘Gold Standard’ Programme, a specialised project that encourages better customer service in bars, and adherence to Stella Artois’ nine-step pouring ritual for its beer. The programme has been run quite successfully in other countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and, of course, Belgium. Each establishment that qualifies for the ‘Gold Standard’ receives a plaque, stating it is a qualified venue to enjoy Stella Artois the right way, and has exemplar customer service. Something to look forward to in the New Year? Definitely.

Say goodbye to JC65, and hello to 65 (G/F, 65 Wyndham Street, 2804 6333), having changed owners, it has been revamped with a whole new look, darker and sexier with a more loungey feel - the perfect way to start and end the night.

Down in Wanchai, Devil’s Advocate (G/F 48-50 Lockhart Road, Wanchai, 2865 7271) has Murphy’s Draught on offer all this month at $32HH/$48 per pint which you can enjoy while watching the Ashes Final Test and O.D.I.’s live. And just to make it easy on you at the beginning of the week, Monster Monday’s see 2 standard drinks for $89 from 5pm-10pm, 2-4-Tuesday’s see 2-4-1 cocktails from 9pm ‘till closing time and they are still running Standard Chartered Wednesdays, $20 for all bottled beers and house spirits with a $20 Standard Chartered bank note from 9pm ‘till closing.

Laguna (17-21 Fenwick Street, Wanchai, 2866 4736) is offering up Sol at $26 a bottle, and $150 for a bucket of 6 bottles. If that doesn’t take your fancy, they have daily 2-4-1 specials running from Monday through Friday – Wednesday nights is their 2-4-1 night on all house spirits.

At Xperience on Tuesdays, take your partner out for Tequila Couples Night or if that isn’t your thing, on Wednesdays it’s Ladies’ Night, and the lucky ladies can enjoy free cocktails from 10pm onwards.

You know there are just some days, especially after a hard night partying with your buddies, that you need just the right kind of kick to get you going. Well don’t fear, Shark, the energy drink is now here. Containing both Taurine and Guarana, natural extracts needed to give the body an extra oopmh, it’ll be a good way to jump start your body. If you need it on your night out, try out one of their special Shark cocktails for that extra buzz. Our favourite is Jaws: Pour 15ml Tequila, vodka and triple sec into an ice-filled shaker with a dash of lime juice and a splash of cranberry juice; pour into a highball and fill with Shark.
