Rock it
Remember when you were a kid and your parents dressed you up in absolutely heinous clothing because it was sensible and ‘cute’? You look at the pictures and think “That was a fashion mistake – I don’t care if I was 3.” Yeah, us too. That’s why we should thank the Dutch creators of Rockabye Baby. They’ve come up with a collection of 100% cotton t-shirts and babygros for young children (up to 2 years old) perfect for any rock-loving parent. Pick from a variety of prints featuring mom-and-dad tattoos, electric guitars and ‘rock god’ slogans in bright, pop colours packaged in a funky looking 10” record sleeve great for any bedroom wall. The company delivers internationally and prices start at €23.50 (HK$235). Check out www.rockabye-baby.com.

Dig it
It may look like a space station in a drowned hole, but all the necessaries are there – café, restaurant, sport facilities… Yes, it’s a luxury hotel built in a water-filled quarry and, taking advantage of what nature provides, it promises bungy jumping and rock climbing among its attractions. And no need to mention a swimming pool! Someone’s 2097 dream? Actually no, we’re talking an award-winning design for a hotel in Songjiang, China. The date of completion is not yet known but make a mental reservation if you’ve always wanted to chill out in a big hole in the ground.

Beep it
The ubiquitous octopus card is everyone’s friend: not only can you use it for travel, purchasing your paper at the 711, securing your java fix at Starbucks and registering for school in the morning, it can also be a hip fashion accessory as demonstrated by the many octopus watches for sale. Or Lumineux’s ornamental charms. Studded with Swarovski crystals, the charms also come with the octopus chip, and can be used as key chains or adornments for your bag and phone. Prices range from $699-$899 and they are available at Lumineux, Shop 111, 1/F Gi Centre, 34-36 Granville Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, 2367 8880.

Write it
How annoying is it when you’ve got something important to scribble down and your pen runs out of ink? Well, stick the metal pen in your pocket and you’ll never have to curse ballpoints again. Although the pen is made of stainless steel, the idea behind it is taken from the old art of silverpoint – using silver as a writing tool. But unlike silverpoint, this metal pen will write on most paper surfaces and looks just like a pencil – though its marks can’t be rubbed out or smudged. The metal pen is available for £14.99 (HK$225) at www.grand-illusions.com.

Rent it
Want to be a boss in the new year but don’t have the capital? Easy. You don’t need to own a shop: own this box and be the boss. Pay $180 a month to rent one of these start-your-own-business containers, put what you want to sell inside and that’s it! Products we’ve seen up for grabs so far include brand-name accessories, toys and cosmetics. But who knows – maybe you can make a fortune by popping your fugitive-from-fashion underwear inside as well? Book your box at Shop 246, 2/F, Causeway Place.
