Buy it (but don’t eat it)
We know girls who, on V-Day, buy a pack of chocolate, melt it and, after messing around with it, put it back in the fridge. Ostensibly they’re trying to reshape it into a heart but we suspect what returns to the fridge looks more like diseased liver. But the worst of it is that they then try to force others (often their sweethearts) to eat their disfigured creation. But now these V-Day artists can save themselves (and their long-suffering friends) all that trouble by having someone else do it properly for them. You can customize your own M&M’s online – choose your favourite colour, enter your message, pick a package and that’s it! You may need friends in the US or Canada to ship you the package, but why worry? The message won’t melt until you put it in your mouth! Click www.mymms.com/holidays/valentines.asp to order!

Buy it (secretly)
I know most of the sex shops have drapes at the doors, but I’m still embarrassed to walk into the shop or, even worse, walk out of it. I’m sure people are staring at me all the way out of the shopping mall. So this year, I prefer to shop at home – at www.loveshop.hk, where I can find everything from real-shape love dolls to sexy eye masks, and from fake penises to Bathing Ape condoms. And the web site is more than an online shop – it’s even got a media section with updated news about the latest sex products. Really, you can do a lot of things simply with your fingertips…

Buy it (yourself)
Who says you have to wait for your partner to buy you nice stuff? Pop star and actress Karen Mok is launching her debut designer jewellery, ‘I-Series’, which promotes the idea of BIY – Love Yourself, Buy It Yourself. The star designer said she chose the letter ‘I’ not only because it stands for oneself and individual freedom, it is also pronounced in the same way as the Putonghua word for ‘love’. And what is better than loving yourself while helping others too? Part of the profit from sales of this lovely jewellery will go to UNICEF to help kids in need. So you know what to ask (or worse, beg) your partner for this V-Day. For details, click www.chowtaifook.com. (Or simply forward the link to him.)

Wear it
Lingerie is always associated with the holiday of love and sometimes you see the most garish, over the top, and frankly downright ugly ‘sexy’ underwear touted in the shops around this time of year. So we’re going to recommend our favourite smalls which are both appealing (in an understated yet so seductive way) and comfortable for men and women: Calvin Klein. With cute, girly, and simple designs featuring added ‘boost’ in the bras for those needing a little extra, and well-cut, flattering boxers and briefs for men, it’s hard to go wrong here. These undergarments are so good, your partner may just begrudge your letting nothing come between you and your Calvins…

Moon it
Admit it, you’ve occasionally made that ‘grand gesture’ of love to your significant other with the words “I’d give you the moon if I could.” Well, now you can make good on that promise, because the Lunar Registry is offering properties from five top locations you can give your valentine. With such romantic names as the Lake of Dreams, The Bay of Rainbows and The Sea of Serenity, why would your partner not want to own a little piece of the moon? For about US$30 (HK$234) an acre you will get your own chunk of the big cheese, an engraved and personalized deed of your new property, a satellite photograph of its location and complete geographic information including how to find it through a telescope (or, as the site says, by visiting… um, sure.). Check out www.lunarregistry.com/info/valentine.shtml for more details.

Dip it
Want a cheesy (but, of course, romantic) way to spend the evening with your loved one on Valentine’s Day? How about a pot of chocolate fondue? Rich, smooth, liquid goodness perfect for dipping strawberries, other fruits, and even marshmallows, sounds tempting and utterly delicious. Of course, no mushy evening would be complete without a bit of alcohol to release your inhibitions – so those geniuses behind Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur have released a special fondue set complete with pot, forks and a 750ml bottle of their dream cream. Indulge your sweet tooth and your sweetheart. The Baileys fondue set is available at supermarkets and department stores for $209. Or, you could head over to our competitions page, and win yourself a set just in time for V-Day.
