Murder it
“Murder is always a mistake – one should never do anything one cannot talk about after dinner,” said Oscar Wilde, but we haven’t heard that he said anything about writing about murder. Nor obviously have the Hong Kong Writers’ Circle who are behind Hong Kong Whodunnits, a collection of short stories with the theme ‘One City, 12 Murders’. The stories investigate the human being’s capacity for sexual jealousy, greed and revenge, all against a common backdrop – Hong Kong. Featured authors include John Biggs, Michael Gibb, Ian Greenfield and Tammy
Ho. Grab your copy from Dymocks for $90.

We’ve all heard the cliché “they just don’t make them like they used to”. Well, the cliché actually applies to the art of movie posters. Instead of modern-day posters from a generic face-plastered-over-a-backdrop template, vintage movie posters were atmospheric, classy, and got the point of the story across. Classic posters, from Vertigo to Gone with the Wind, are now considered collector’s items. An exhibition of posters, not only advertising movies, is on at Picture This Gallery until March 17 – check it out or visit the website http://www.picturethiscollection.com.

Game It
Back in the days of the old-school Nintendo, video game music emanated from midis and generic sound effects. Nowadays, with video-game production values rivalling those of Hollywood films, it’s only natural for the quality of game music to be ratcheted up several notches. EA Games, makers of best-selling attractions such as NBA Live, Madden NFL, Medal of Honor, and Battlefield, have long had big-name artists record exclusive tracks for their products and now those tracks are available for download on Apple’s iTunes. Get them from directly from iTunes or via EA’s website at www.ea.com/eatrax/. Everything from Franz Ferdinand to Pharell, it’s all there.

Air It
Michael Jordan and Nike put out a new Air Jordan every year despite the fact Jordan has been retired since 2003. The shoes still sell like hotcakes – yes, despite the fact Jordan has been retired since 2003! The man widely regarded as the greatest basketballer of all time also has the hottest shoes out: from Hong Kong to Los Angeles, from kids to adults, everyone just wants to be like Mike. The ‘True Blue’ Air Jordan Spizikes are a throwback to the vintage old-school Air Jordan V (originally released in 1989). These kicks go for $1,400.

Trade it
We all know how annoying it is when you revisit a city you have previously really enjoyed, head to your favourite restaurant or outlet only to find it is no longer there. Then you check your guidebook and realize it was published five years previously! To avoid such disappointments and save you money, Lonely Planet and Page One are launching the Guidebook Amnesty, in which you can take any old edition of a used English guidebook and receive $50 off the purchase of a new Lonely Planet guide priced at $200 or
above. The campaign runs till March 31. For details, www.pageonegroup.com.

Colour it
Bored with the four barren white walls in his ward as he recovered from cancer in 1994, a young artist decided to bring colour to the place and so Art in Hospital was born. Big Happy Heart is Art in Hospital’s current exhibition which features work from celebrities like musician Calvin Choy, actress Angelina Lee and the recently returned Sammi Cheng. Three lovely characters – Woody Big, Happy Elephant and Heart Boy – are ambassadors for the exhibition at the Hospital Gallery of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital till April 16 from 9am – 6pm.
