Ginger It
Pop stars love proving they do have intelligence and a kind heart. Madonna-wannabe Geri Halliwell (she actually named her 11-month old daughter Madonna) is following the diva’s footsteps – writing children’s books. Halliwell’s heroine is Ugenia Lavender, a courageous, sassy and sweet (didn’t we hear this somewhere before?) 9-year-old and the message behind the six-book series is: every kid is special and capable of amazing things. Sounds inspiring, huh? The books will come out next year – stay tuned.

Hard Boil It
Many HK cinema buffs were extremely disappointed at the recent news that Chow Yun Fat has dropped out of John Woo’s next project, The Battle Of The Red Cliff. All hope seemed lost for fans wanting a re-teaming of John Woo and Chow Yun Fat… well, not quite. There’s still Stranglehold, a game currently being developed for the Xbox 360! John Woo is one of the creative directors for the game and the main character is an exact polygon replica of Chow Yun Fat. To top it all off, Chow Yun Fat’s in-game character is none other than Inspector Tequila Yuen from the action classic Hard Boiled, making this a loose sequel to the film, only in video game form (Sorry, no Tony Leung though). Re-teaming in a video game may actually work better than re-teaming on cinema screen, because the digital Chow Yun Fat hasn’t aged like its real-life counterpart, and you can easily skip the dialogue as it’s a video game.

Only the Americans could have thought of it. While most of us can’t wait to get our rubbish into the nearest landfill, the Yanks do with theirs what they do best – make money out of it. At www.buytrash.com, you can “learn the American spirit” by buying American trash, which comes in three weights – 1, 2 and 3lb lots. You have no idea of where the trash comes from or what it is until you open the package. But one thing is for sure – the product you have ordered will be freshly made in the US of A by the people who know how to make it best!


Phone It
Sometimes we wonder how the hundreds of mobile phone shops all over HK stay in business – really, how often does one change mobile phones? We shall find out soon, because Nokia has just released their latest gadget, the N95. In addition to a sexy, slick silver-trimmed look, the phone features a whopping five-megapixel camera with DVD quality digital recording, a gorgeous 2.6 inch screen capable of showing 16 million colours, and an integrated GPRS system, so you’ll never be lost in the city again!

(Don’t) Eat It
If you’ve heard people labelling seafood ‘Recommended’, ‘Think Twice’ and ‘Avoid’ in the market, it doesn’t necessarily refer to taste. They could be talking about WWF’s new green and sustainable level indicators. Recommended (represented by a green icon) means the seafood comes from well-managed fisheries and Avoid (red) says the food is obtained in ways that have had serious negative impacts on the marine environment. Think Twice (yellow) is something in between – treat with caution. We know it might be painful for seafood lovers to think before putting their bite of lobster or lovely scallop into their mouths, but to save the environment, that’s what we need to start doing now. Venom It!
As if you couldn’t tell from the ads plastered all over the sides of buses and the themed wall in Causeway Bay, Spiderman 3 is here and guaranteed to be one of the biggest hits of the year. No doubt the most anticipated addition to the series in the third film is the inclusion of the villain Venom. In the comics, Venom is a complicated and deep fellow and all Spiderman geeks know there is no way the film will be able to cover even half of his backstory.
