At the end of last month Lotus (37-43 Pottinger Street, 2543 6290) celebrated its first anniversary and, as part of those celebrations, cocktail mixologist Grant Collins tweaked what was already the most innovative cocktail list in Hong Kong to add several new and very enjoyable creations. Grant makes cocktails as a celebrity chef conjures up fabulous dishes and the results are there to be appreciated: the new Lotus Margarita features Anejo Tequila, Cointreau and fresh lime finished with a side of sea foam – a decidedly different take on tradition, as is the Lotus Cubra Libre, with Meyers rum served over a ball of ice and lime with a shot of coca-cola on the side.

Enter through the massive Moroccan-styled arched doors to the world of Privé (60 Wyndham Street, Central, 2810 8199), the newest bar in town which recently opened in the space previously occupied by the Edge. Privé is an open, airy club with a large dominant central bar easy to walk around, a dance floor backed with a large video wall, private area and some very comfortable booths off to the side. Open from 5pm till late, it is a stylish addition to the local bar scene.

Club Magazine (3F Cosmos Building, 8-11 Lan Kwai Fong) has happily informed us that they’re back for the summer after a small holiday and will be cooking up some great parties with local and foreign DJ’s.

Is it really eight years already? It must be as Devils Advocate (48-50 Lockhart Road, Wanchai, 2865-7271) celebrates its 8th anniversary on June 1 with an 8ties party, it’s $88 unlimited standard drinks from 8pm-10pm and great 8ties music, the birdie dance, vodka jellies and lots more. Dress to impress 8ties style to win some fashionable prizes.

Also in Wanchai, Xperience (33 Lockhart Road, 2143 6008) offers the area’s only al-fresco dining with a three course set-lunch Monday to Friday for $79 and an a la carte menu until late. After a few unforeseen delays, construction of the new Sticky Fingers on Lockhart Road is underway with an expected opening in late June. Down the street, Bulldogs (2/F, 21-25 Luard Road, 2529 2661) has launched a ladies’ night every Wednesday with free Absolut cosmopolitans, Smirnoff Ice, margaritas… from 8pm-midnight.

In Lan Kwai Fong, there’s lots of gossip concerning new club openings and projects planned, while another top London club is looking to open here soon... Look for more details next issue.

Organic is in, and organic spirits are as much a part of the trend as organic fruit and vegetables. 4 Copas is an organic tequila - part of a flood of new tequilas that have hit the market in recent years - with an earthy and meticulously-crafted-lowland-style that shows how elegant, yet firm and forthright, the spirit can be.
