Construction time again, you’d barely noticed it was closed before the paint is already dry and Delaney’s Wanchai (G/F, One Capital Place, 18 Luard Road, Wanchai, 2804 2880) has re-opened after a quick sprucing up. However as we go to print it seems that construction problems are slowing down the opening of Q (Bsmt, California Tower, 30-32 D’Aguilar Street, LKF, 2868 6062) the new club operating under the management of the Epicurean Group which is still being renovated with plans for it to open before the end of August.

It’s only the middle of August but the new English Premiership season kicked off last weekend and your favourite sports bars and pubs will be screening games courtesy of new broadcaster NowTV. As we’re going to print before what promises to be a really exciting season, it’s hard to comment on the type of coverage we’ll be getting – but struggling through the complete mess that is Now’s website it does appear that you can watch almost every game live or delayed live. There are lots of supporters clubs around for the various teams so join up with some like-minded fans to cheer your team on.

Devils Advocate (48-50 Lockhart Road, Wanchai, 2865 7271) is keeping summer alive with a tasty Sangria promotion - $39 H/H, $50 N/H – along with the traditional Sangria (red wine, spiced rum, cranberry and orange juice) they have five white wine versions including Apples ‘n Pears (white wine, vodka, apple juice), Peach ‘n Mango (white wine, peach schnapps, brandy, mangos and ginger ale) and Sparkling (sparkling wine, triple sec, brandy, white rum and strawberries). Football fans at Xperience (G/F, Asia Orient Tower, 33 Lockhart Road, Wanchai, 2143 6008) can watch football from different leagues across Europe over a snack and a drink. Corona, Carlsberg, and San Miguel are all selling for $35 all night and a pizza and standard drink going for $88. If you’ve got your dancing feet on, drop by on a Sunday for salsa from 8pm till late.

In Central, Agave (G/F, 33 D’Aguilar Street, LKF, 2521 2010) is running a beer promotion throughout August: the drink crosses the counter for $30 during happy hour from 5-8:30pm. And a walk away in Wyndham Street, Arigato’s (G/F,
Shop A, 77 Wyndham Street, 2526 5551) is serving a buy-one-get-one-free promotion on standard drinks and wines from 6-9pm.

Looking for somewhere different? Try heading to Happy Valley where Jubilee (G/F, Shop 11-11A, Wong Nai Chung Road, Happy Valley, 2893 7911) has a variety of promotions running throughout August –enjoy a buy-one-get-two special on drinks before 8:30pm on Wednesdays and during happy hours on weekdays.

On Kowloon side, check out Dijaya (Shop G3 and G4, G/F, 8 Minden Avenue, TST, 2732 2736) whose new promotion starts on August 16. Designated drinks will go on a buy-one-get-one-free basis on Monday to Friday 5:30-8:30pm, a buy-two-get-one-free on Sundays and all shooters are on a buy-one-get-one-free offer from 5:30-10:30pm.

Club A (Shop G12-13, The Pinnacle, 8 Minden Avenue, TST, 2369 9826) is a newly opened joint in Minden Avenue. The décor is modern with U-shaped sofas and large screens showing the latest music videos and a circular bar in the middle of it all, like a stage: you can watch the bartender doing his theatrical thing from anywhere in the club. The Flaming Waterfall ($150), a flambéed mixture, is strongly recommended.

You can take your sport seriously or trot off to the 4th Inaugural International Invitational Fat Boys 10’s presented by the Potbellied Pigs on September 1 at Challenger Stadium in Angeles City in the Philippines.
