FORT SHOWDOWN
Bankers vs insurance salesmen, financiers vs stockbrokers; it is hardly the stuff you would think rugby is made of, but that’s the beauty of the Savills Professions Sevens. Rabid office workers from Credit Suisse, HSBC, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Swire Pacific, Zurich International Life and other firms are unleashed from their desks to prove that their company is the best on the rugby field. Kick-off is at 9:10am at Stanley Fort on December 9 with the closing ceremony wrapping things up at 5:15pm. The HK squad will host a children’s skills section at 11:15am and Delaney’s will provide a food stand and a beer garden. All proceeds from the day will be distributed to local charities including the Hong Kong Cancer Fund and Riding for the Disabled Association.

FOR THE KIDS
UNICEF is running two charity events for children with HIV/AIDS: a 10km run for ages 3-15, and a half marathon aimed at ages 16 and up. The course is designed in the Sunny Bay area to be pleasant and fun with a focus on scenery and flat ground with few sharp turns so that runners will not have to slow down. The assembly point is in the Disneyland car park and the races start at 7am and finish around Disneyland. Although entry is now closed, go ahead and watch – it is all for a good cause.

Come and watch the best in HK prove themselves as they do battle in several classes including 7.8 sq m maximum sail area, men and women, over 40s, under 20s, under 19s and under 17s (all as of 31 December 2007).

A GOOD START
It is rugby action all the way as the annual G4S Union Sevens celebrate the day tickets for the HK Sevens 2008 go on public sale. Perhaps to prevent a stampede of single-minded ticket buyers from destroying themselves, the stadium also hosts a day of absolutely free fun starting in the morning with mini rugby leading to a match between the HK Under 20s and King’s College, New Zealand, at midday. After that will follow the finals of the men’s and women’s senior divisions, the day coming to a close with the Division 1 final at 6pm.
