Bike ‘n’ Run
The first race of this year’s Duathalon Series will take place on Sunday, March 2, on Chong San Road, at the Science Park, Shatin. The race is open to everyone but the application deadline is Friday, February 22. The race will feature three courses: the most demanding is a run of 3km, then a bike ride for 21km, followed by another 3km run. Juniors (born between 1989-1992) and veterans (born in or before 1968) will run for 1.5km, cycle for 9km, and finish with another 1.5km run. Children born between 1997 and 2000 can also join the competition: the course for the Ultra Kids Category features a 800m run, followed by 3km of biking and then another run of 800m. The entry fee is $70 for all HK Triathlon Club members and $120 for non-members. If you need more training time, you could always participate to the second and last race of the Series on Sunday, March 16, on Bride’s Pool Road in the New Territories.

Rowing Without Water
The HK Open Indoor Rowing Championships & Charity Rowathon 2008 is the biggest indoor rowing event organised by the HK Rowing Association. It will be held this year on March 29 and 30 at Kowloon Park Sports Centre. The championship will feature both individual and teams events. Individual categories include Open Age and Lightweight (for which men must not weigh more than 75kg and women 61.5kg) and Juniors, (18 years and under) whose race is over a distance of 2,000m while the Adaptive category’s is over 1,000m. In the team events, a team must have four members of the same gender each rowing for 500m. The entry fee for individual competitors is $120 and $60 for juniors and for teams, $450. Two-thirds of the entry fee of the Charity Rowathon together with all sponsor donations will be given to ORBIS, the non-profit charity dedicated to blindness prevention and treatment in developing countries. Application forms and fees should be submitted by Friday, February 29, at the Sports Centre.

Charity Hike
Here is a way to put your best foot forward in support of an excellent cause. The annual Hike for Hospice is coming up on Sunday, February 24, at Pat Sin Leng Country Park. You can choose one of three routes: the Scenic, the Arduous, and the Super Arduous. The Scenic is a 13km stroll with 340m of climbing while for those with more stamina and muscle, the Arduous covers 16km and 620m of climbing. The Super Arduous, for the most dogged among us, is a 22km stretch with 860m climbs. The minimum donation for a single participant is $5,000, while for teams (4-6 members) the quota is $20,000. All the funds will be donated to the HK Hospice and Palliative Movement. The hike starts at 9am with registrations being taken from 7:45 am.

Adventure Race
The Outward Bound Adventure Race returns this year, its 7th anniversary. The fundraising event and endurance test includes kayaking, swimming, orienteering and running over a total of 20km, starting in Aberdeen and ending in Stanley. This year’s race will be held on Sunday, March 9, with training sessions on March 1 and 2. Anyone can join, in teams of four people; the only physical requirement of the race is the ability to swim for at least 300m. The race offers two routes, the Challenge (20km) and the Elite (15km). The entry fee for the public is $1,000 per team, and $100 per person for the training sessions. All the funds raised will go to the HK Outward Bound School Charity that helps underprivileged youths. Participants will be informed of the exact starting spot once they register.

Yau Yee Footie
The quarterfinals of the Yau Yee Lee Football League Cup - the city’s oldest amateur football association tournament - see the Darts taking on Club Wanderers at 9:30am, Club Albion against Club Colts at 3pm, Antonhill vs USRC at 4:30pm and finally French Kiss against 816 at 6:45pm. All games take place on the 9 March. The last two matches will be held in King’s Park Sports Ground, Kowloon, while Club Albion and Club Colts will play at the HK Football Club. The Darts and the Wanderers will compete at the Community Sports Ground in Ma Tso Lung.

Road Runners
If you missed the first two AVOHK Reservoir Races, you can make it up with the last – Race 3 in Tai Tam County Park. Although this is the shortest of the series, it is the toughest, with a starting point outside the car park on Tai Tam Reservoir Road. The trail runs through Tai Tam Upper Reservoir and Boa Vista, getting increasingly steeper until the turning point at Quarry Bay. The race ends where it began. Entries for Race 3 are still open; the participating fee is $80 for AVOHK members and $100 for non-members. The entry form must be submitted prior to race day, although entries on the day ($130) might be allowed depending if the quota of runners has been reached.
