ANGEL INTERVIEW:
N1D

Hi N1D! What you have been up to these days?

I’m good recently and I’m currently busy with the production work and the rehearsal for my next gig.

So what does N1D stand for? Your friends don’t call you N1D, right?
It stands for No One Dance… Well, I’m just joking. I’m sorry to tell you that it is a secret!

Tell us something about the club scene in Macau… or if there is a scene at all.
No club scene at all! Because there are not too many clubbers or dance music lovers. But there are some good pubs and bars for drinking.

If it’s that bad, how did you get into DJing there?
I became a bedroom producer when I was still in secondary school. Back then I was not exactly a DJ because I couldn’t get any DJ tools. So I started playing music as a bedroom musician with nothing but my own PC. Later I could finally buy DJ tools and officially call myself a DJ!

Tell us about your music influences. Any favourite DJs and musicians?
I started to love music when I met hip-hop. And then I was fascinated by drum’n’bass, breaks and the rest. There are different favourite artists in different genres. For dubstep, my favourite producers/DJ would be Kode9, Tes La Rok, DMZ – they have really deep influences on me.

Have you got a best gig so far?
My next gig is always the best gig!

What about playing in a casino? Is there such gig in Macau?
No. It’s impossible to spin in a casino!

I guess DJing isn’t your fulltime job?
I am a university student actually.
Ah, a student! Well I had the slogan ‘Free Tibet’ on my MySpace page.

Any thoughts on the subject you wish to share with us?
If you watch the Free Tibet documentary DVD which was released in 1998, you’ll find the answer.

I tried to Google you but I couldn’t find much info – how would you describe yourself?
Bass, bass and more bass!

N1D will spin along with DJ Wash, Kastoacha, DJ Enso, SteF:Funn and BloodDunza at the Heavy Roots Dubstep Session for a night of reggae and dubstep on May 3 at Sammi’s Kitchen (G/F, 137-139 Connaught Road, Sheung Wan). The party kicks off at 10pm and entry costs $100 including one drink. Free vodka before 12mn.
