The Find: Cloth flowers
Final price: $19.50
Where found: Toys”R” Us

words vivian ‘i love my mum’ chen

Some people may sniff and sneer at cloth flowers — which may not have a fresh flower’s sweet smell — yet they keep for much longer and the sharp colours never fade. And they aren’t as fragile as dried flowers. Tossing, or even squeezing artificial flowers won’t do them any harm. Besides, they are easy to wash and will usually regain their lustre after a trip through the washing machine. The flexible stems can be bent to almost any shape your creative mind can devise. These flowers can be a nice decoration for events, and a nice ‘chin up’ for your friends. Or why not surprise Mom with a bunch of these for Mother’s Day? In addition to all these advantages their prices won’t rise crazily as that special day approaches!

Sunny Bay station is perhaps best known as the interchange station for people heading out to the Disneyland Resort. Until 2005, when Hong Kong’s Disneyland opened for business, Sunny Bay used to be called Yam O, meaning Bay of Darkness. But the government, figuring that the gateway to ‘the happiest place on earth’ deserved a sunnier name, changed it to Sunny Bay. In any case, Sunny Bay has more to offer than just being the stop before the wonderful world of Disney. Stepping out from the station’s sole exit, you’ll find swaying palm trees and that Sunny Bay can be a great place to take in some Lantau Island views and air. A bayside stroll or even jog around the area can help ease all those big city tensions – or you can spend a leisurely hour or two just sitting on the bank of the bay contemplating life and the fish.
