Vinexpo Asia-Pacific 2008 takes place at the HK Convention and Exhibition Centre from 27-29 May from 9:30am – 6-30pm daily. Although a trade exhibition for ‘wine and spirits professionals and related businesses’, if you like your wine, then, based on the 2006 event, it’s definitely worth seeing if you can get an invite – www.vinexpo.com for more details.

The original Bellini, as created by Giuseppe Cipriani of Harry’s Bar in Venice in 1948 was reportedly inspired by the Venetian painter Giovanni Bellini and consists of one third fresh peach juice and two thirds chilled Prosecco. Since then a wide range of ingredients and recipes have been used to expand on the original creation. The latest we’ve come across, and not officially on the menu, is the Beer Bellini at FINDS (2/F, LKF Tower, 33 Wyndham Street, 2522 9318). Originally created by bar tender Tim as more economical staff drink - to placate the management - than its champagne equivalent, the ‘Beer Bellini’ contains 5ml vodka, 10ml peach schnapps, 10ml apple juice and is topped with beer. It’s a very enjoyable drink with which to toast FINDS on their fourth birthday and if you ask one can be yours for $80.

In the Scottish Premier League, as I write this, Glasgow Rangers have been sweeping all before them this season and may, by the time you read this, have won the UEFA Cup. On 20 May, Amici (1/F, 81-85 Lockhart Road, Wanchai, 2866 1918) presents ‘A Night With Legends’ including Gordon Durie, Andy Goram, Mark Walters, Ian and Derek Ferguson – meet, ask questions, and enjoy a beverage or three as the $480 ticket price includes unlimited standard drinks from 8:30-11:30pm and free snacks.

Zinc (35 D’Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong, 2868 3448) has expanded its comfortable front couch area so there more seating for those who want to see and be seen while enjoying a good night out. There’s a strong rumour floating around that one of our favourite bar managers Bev – ex Dusk Till Dawn, Coconuts, Bed - will be working there from the start of next month. Every Thursday is ladies night and the cozmo’s are on the house for the fairer sex.

Club Flamingo has just opened on the 2/F Cosmos Building, 8-11 Lan Kwai Fong, 3798 0198. Open from 6 till late, happy hour runs until 11pm Monday to Friday and sex discrimination night in favour of the ladies every Thursday when they get standard drinks for free all night.

In Wanchai, the news is all good for patrons of two of the area’s most popular watering holes: Devils Advocate (48-50 Lockhart Road, 2865 7271) has, after some hard negotiation, signed a new lease while a little further down the road Mes Amis (83 Lockhart Road, 2527 6680) has fought off the attentions of Ronald McDonald who is rumoured to have taken a fancy to their site for a new 24 hour restaurant. For those in desperate need of a fast food fix in the wee small hours, the McDonalds on Hennessy Road near Wanchai MTR will soon be open 24 hours. Also in Wanchai, Dusk Till Dawn (76-84 Jaffe Road, 2528 4689) as well as offering fine live music every night has Budweiser at $22/bottle and 5 bottles/$100 from 5-10pm daily and some tasty free snacks from the kitchen. Across the harbour All Night Long (9 Knutsford Terrace, 2367 9487) has a similar Budweiser promotion from 4-10pm and live tunes till late.

You can still “Grab a Corona to Mexico”, and win a $40,000 8-day Mexican USA cruise package for two. Look for the Corona promotion girls in your favourite outlets to collect your Corona Cruise passport and then collect stamps to win goodies like a 4GB SD memory card, $200 sports wear coupon (5 stamps), a Casio Digital camera (10 stamps), and a $2000 cruise travel coupon (15 stamps). There’s two rounds of luck draws as well, the first offer the glamorous cruise trip the second almost $100,000 of prizes. Check out www.coronafun.com.hk or your favourite outlet for more details.
