The Find: Crystal Stickers Alphabet
Final price: $10
Where found: Yue Man Square, Kwun Tong
Tired of your mobile’s mournful old look? Here is something to turn it into a jazzy eyecatcher. These crystal stickers are a cheap, fun and easy way to bling up your gadgets. The fashionable rhinestones may not sparkle as much as crystals from Swarovski but, for $10, they’re a bargain. And they are multi-positional – you can attach them wherever and to whatever you choose. Stick them on a T-shirt for your very own fashion statement or spell out sweet messages on gifts for your friends. You could even send something a little sparkling and risqué to your sweetheart. Your imagination is the only limit.

Ngau Tau Kok literally translates from Cantonese as ‘ox head point (or horn)’ and is a name this area of Kowloon was given because its coastline physically resembles the horn of an ox. Opened in 1979, the Ngau Tau Kok station is one of the MTR’s oldest. It was built close to the Kwun Tong Road flyover, so expect dust and dirt when you step out of the station and beneath the busy bridges. A classic Hong Kong residential area, it is packed with high rise apartment blocks usually painted pale pink or blue, some old-fashioned malls with convenience stores selling low-priced garments or groceries, and fresh markets where, at dusk, many people, just off work, stop to pick up food for dinner. This is also a great place for people watching: shoe-shiners work the pavements, shouting shopkeepers promote their goods, old people take naps – all the elements needed for a classic Hong Kong community scene. Additionally, the historic Yue Man Market and the more fancy and modern Kwun Tong apm are both within 10 minutes walk of the station.
