The City One MTR station is named after the No 1 largest residential area in Shatin near by. And upon stepping out of the station, you’ll be surrounded by 52 buildings, all over 30 floors high, and find yourself in a cement jungle. But even cement jungles can have hidden attractions and, as the decorated pillars on the platform suggest, an annual international dragon boat race takes place on the Shing Mun River only a couple of blocks from the station. The race is part of the Tuen Ng festival commemorating Chinese hero Qu Yuan. You may find the river still smells a little bit, but the water quality has improved since 1996. Indeed, the riverbank is probably the ‘green lung’ for residents nearby, and it is where many people jog, cycle or just walk their dogs. So if you fancy a walk with a difference take a stroll around one of the first new towns, this mini city is the 1980’s urban planners vision of modern Hong Kong as reality.

When was the last time you actually believed in fairy tales? If you think these bedtime stories are only for children to dream about, here’s a little friend that can bring back your innocence. The story goes like this: I saw this poor froggie trapped in an egg at the corner of a toy store, waiting for someone to rescue him. So I took him home, and instead of giving him a kiss, I just filled the egg with water, waited for the changes, and, believe it or not, the froggie was transformed into a handsome prince in just 15 minutes! Prince Charming is fully grown after 72 hours. The legends of the frog prince is true and of course everyone lived happily ever after.
