ANGEL INTERVIEW:
Lewis Boardman

Ministry of Sound presents Lewis Boardman at Beijing Club (2/3 F, Wellington Place, 2-8 Wellington Street, Central) on June 26. Supporting DJs are Arun R and May. The party starts at 10pm – entry is free for ladies but $220 on the door for men.

How are you doing and what are you up to now?
At the minute we are currently looking at venues to do a special summer party. Every year we do a special summer party in a crazy location from a barn to a moving train! And getting ready for We Love Space in Ibiza.

What’s on your stereo these days?
On my stereo at the minute are the new Jamie Lidell album Jim and Paul Weller’s 22 Dreams. Both are great.

You changed from an indie rock fan to a DJ after a trip to Ibiza. What happened there?
Still trying to work that out… (gagged)

But you didn’t want to go at first – so how did your mates convince you?
My friends just said I would miss out on a great week away and it turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done.

So if you had not got on that plane, what do you think you will be doing now?
I think I would still be involved in putting on parties, if I was not a DJ.

What about Glastonbury? You will be playing at the Glastonbury Festival after the HK gig. Are you ready for the mud and rain?
I hope it is not raining at Glastonbury! But in the UK it seems to rain at most festivals. I went to see Daft Punk last year in Leeds and that was something really special and, yes, it did rain.

And what about playing in Circus, Liverpool? Is it always your favourite venue to play at because of the homecoming thing?
Liverpool has a great history of clubs and we have had some great nights at Circus. The first time I played, I played in the bar. That was really cool and after that I was asked to be a resident – that was a dream come true!

Which do you enjoy more, DJing or producing?
I’m a DJ first and then a producer, but I’m starting to get into the production side of things a lot more now. And I have been very lucky to have Yousef (Liverpool DJ and producer, founder of Circus) as a mentor and a friend. He helps me out a lot.

You are playing at HK on a Thursday night – what should people tell their bosses if they fall asleep at work on Friday?
Let’s all take Friday off work!
