Artists’ Preoccupations

What do artists do when they are not making art? In Preoccupations: Things Artists Do Anyway edited by artists Cornelia Erdmann and Michael Lee Hong Hwee, 111 international artists reflect and articulate their obsessions with text and images, like experimental narratives, photographs, sketches, computer screen shots and so on. The collection might even drop some hints at the artists’ next projects. We have 5 copies of the book to give away. To win one, simply tell us in which countries Cornelia Erdmann and Michael Lee Hong Hwee were born.

At Love’s Edge?

You don’t have to have read Dylan Thomas to appreciate the story of a love trilogy involving the Welsh wordsmith and two extraordinary women told in The Edge of Love, the romantic drama staring Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller and Matthew Rhys. With a script by Knightley’s real-life mom, Sharman Macdonald, this biographical work also presents a tale of unlikely friendship between two romantic rivals. We have 10 pairs of tickets to the 9:40pm screening of the film at the Broadway Cinematheque on Thursday August 14 to give away. To win yourself a pair, simply tell us the name of the football movie Keira Knightley appeared in some six years ago.

Sheng It Up

Don’t try to label SIU2 as ‘another crossover of rock, classical, Chinese and Western music’ – the band’s frontman Ng Cheuk Yin says their music is whatever you say it is after listening to it. SIU2’s debut album Open Door is now available at G.O.D. outlets and we have five copies to give away. Tell us which three Chinese musical instruments are played in the band and you might be in for a novel listening experience.

Bloody Epic

Written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia, Boogie Nights), There Will Be Blood earned eight Oscars nominations in 2007, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film also brought the long-hailed Daniel Day-Lewis his second Best Actor Oscar. The epic centres on independent oilmen Daniel Plainview (Day-Lewis) and his son, who are looking for fortune in California at the turn of the 20th century. They are later challenged by young preacher Eli Sunday (Paul Dano) leading to a battle full of bloodshed, madness and twisted humanity. To win one of five DVDs of this breathtaking picture, tell us who plays Day-Lewis’s adopted son, HW, in the film.

Shake it, shake it

Have a ‘craic’ (the Irish term for general fun and banter with drinks and music) this summer with a special edition Baileys Shaker Pack, which hit Hong Kong’s shelves last month at $172 per pack, and contains a bottle of Baileys and a transparent cocktail shaker. All you have to do is fill the shaker with plenty of ice, pour in 50ml of Baileys for each person, shake it vigorously and strain the drink into martini glasses. Garnish with a dusting of cocoa powder for a bit of sophistication, then sit back, chill out, and enjoy. We have five bottles of Baileys Original Irish Cream to give away. To win yourself one, tell us the number of flavours Baileys have launched so far.
