Cricket Crazy

It is the Sixes time again in cricket and once more big-name internationals will be in action at the Kowloon Cricket Club on November 8 and 9. The International Cricket Council’s Cricketer of the Year, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, will be joined by Sri Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya, former Australian international Justin Langer, New Zealand’s former captain Steven Fleming and England’s fast bowler Matthew Hoggart as part of the All Stars team. What’s more, legends like Waqar Younis (Pakistan), Sanjay Manjrekar (India), Ian Bishop (West Indies) and Danny Morrison (New Zealand) will be present in the commentary box.

After winning the ACC trophy in August, team Hong Kong is gearing up to take on some of the best in the game. In the Sober’s group with Sri Lanka, Australia, and the All Stars, the team will meet the All Stars in the first round, while in Bradman’s group – England, Pakistan, South Africa and India – arch-rivals India and Pakistan will face off to kickstart the tournament on the first day.

Unlike previous years, this year’s cricket sixes will receive live local TV coverage for the entire 16 hours of the event. The tournament will also receive global coverage, being broadcast to countries such as Australia, New Zealand and India, as well as the Middle East and some parts of Europe. Local fans can even look forward to commentary in Chinese: “For the first time in the history of world cricket, there will be live commentary in Cantonese as well as English with this year’s cricket sixes,” says Mark Burns, director of the tournament.
