As an extension of the Sha Tin New Town project, Ma On Shan, on the eastern coast of Tolo Harbour in the New Territories, was an iron mine from the 1950s to the 1970s. Since then it has been turned into a well-planned residential area with a wide range of recreational facilities: You can find sports grounds, swimming pools, parks, and, of course, Hong Kong’s beloved shopping malls. Both exits that confront you as you venture down from the elevated Ma On Shan station take you to the town’s major malls, Sunshine Plaza and Ma On Shan Plaza, in the latter of which you’ll find attractions like a merry-go-round and miniature clock tower. But if you want an escape from city life, just a few minutes walk from the station, Ma On Shan Park has a large stretch of lawn overlooking the beautiful Tolo Harbour perfect for relaxation and meditation.

The Find :Hermit Crab with decorated shell
Final price : $20
Where found : House Crab, 125 Wanchai Road
Some people keep pets for company, but for others a pet is purely decorative. We don’t know how much company you’ll get out of a hermit crab but these surely are colourful. And we are not only talking about their highly decorated shells (if you don’t like the ready-made shells, you can always get and colour up a plain one yourself) – their bodies are various hues as well: Some are purple while others may be orange-red or pale white. They flew (not swam) all the way from Japan to Hong Kong and now reside in a pet shop in Wanchai. True hermits in the daytime, these sea creatures hide in their shell most of the time, but come out for food and stretches at night. They are easy to keep alive – popcorn is their favourite food, while some say you can actually feed them anything edible, including fruit, vegetables and even oatmeal!
