‘You Big Headed Asian F*ck’ [Tittsworth Interview]

What can the crowd expect from your
set at Volar?

High energy dance floor mayhem!! I play a dozen genres, mix fast and hard, and have been known to beat up some equipment!! I work the mixer so hard I lost Z-trip’s cross fader the last gig we played, haha. Expect aggressive club and cutting edge house/bassline.
How would you describe your sound? What sets you apart from other DJs?
I am known for Baltimore Club but I also have a background in various types of dance and rave music. I play bass heavy music, mixed at a record a minute pace at times. I enjoy pushing my limits and I’m not afraid to take chances.
You’ve played all over the world – where are the best crowds? What are HK crowds like in comparison?
The last time I played HK was pretty epic! It was a gig for Diesel, overlooking the beautiful HK skyline alongside Stretch Armstrong, Eli Escobar, Amanda Blank and Paserock. A hard gig to top for sure but Volar is always an amazing time as well! Other favorites include Sydney, Malmo
and Sao Paulo.
You recently released a CD, 12 Steps – what do you prefer, recording and remixing for others or playing live sets?
They all satisfy different parts of the brain. I enjoy them pretty equally when it is going well. You learn a lot about one from the others. I think a balance of production and performing is key to keeping a good DJ on his/ her toes.
Your bio mentions that you were personally invited to Will.I.Am’s [of Black Eyed Peas fame] house to showcase your tracks – how did that level of recognition feel?
It’s still hard for me to imagine the musical world I live in is changing to the point where guys like that know what I do…
and that Will is writing fidget with the Crookers. Crazy!
You’ve toured with Kanye West at the Good Vibrations festival in Australia – any insider gossip on Kanye?
Ha, Kanye gossip doesn’t appear to be too hard to find without me! Between the music awards and his mother who recently passed, he was super busy. With everyone on that tour (Cypress Hill, The Rapture, Calvin Harris, A-trak etc), he was about the only one we didn’t really see because he was so on the go. Apparently he still found the time to ring A-trak in the middle of the night to work on tunes in their hotel room! A-trak played Kanye some Daft Punk like 3 years ago and the rest is history!
What inspired you to become a DJ?
As far back as I can remember I always loved music. It was a wrap when I saw I could take the pieces of music I loved so much and connect them in an exciting way.
What exciting stuff have you got lined up for the future?
Watch out for the next 2 singles from my album, Drunk as F*ck featuring the Federation and Here He Comes featuring Nina Sky and Pitbull - original music with insane accompanying remixes. Just wrapped up a remix for AC Slater, working on a release with Nadastrom and of course album number two!
Finally… So your surname is actually Tittsworth? Was that fun at school?! Any nicknames you care to share?
Rough childhood turned brilliant branding! I’ve heard it all – T&A, Boobsworth, Nipplesworth, T-T-Boy, Catfish, You big headed Asian F*ck…

Tittsworth will be playing at Club Volar (Basement, 38-44, D’Aguilar Street, Central, 2810 1272) on Friday, 6 February. Entry for members is complimentary whilst non-members pay $250, including 1 drink. See www.tittsworth.com for more.
