Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships
The best of Hong Kong’s young gymnasts will be competing in the Rhythmic Gymnastics Open starting on May 16: Other than the infamous ribbon swirls, they will be doing amazing things with hoops, balls, ropes and clubs. The competition focuses on the Hong Kong junior division, so most of the some 160 participants won’t be older than 13 years. Showing off technical and artistic skills, they will vie for glory and medals and no doubt the combination of glamorous leotards and astonishing routines will keep audiences enthralled during all three days of the championship.

Soccer Sevens
The Soccer Sevens may not generate quite the same buzz as their rugby counterparts but you will still find much to enjoy in this truncated version of football. An eclectic range of reserve and youth teams will compete throughout the weekend – in the past the Soccer Sevens have showcased many promising talents as well as given us the opportunity to marvel once again at some of the greats in action in the veteran teams. This year is no exception. In the main tournament, teams like the Glasgow Rangers, West Ham United and Aston Villa will square off against each other and the Singapore Cricket Club are out to prove they’re as good with their feet as they are with their bats. The Masters tournament has attracted a lot of all-stars and veteran teams from all across the globe including the Southampton and Sheffield Vets among others.

Spring Sailing
Let’s hope for good weather and healthy winds for the RHKYC’s annual race to Macau. It’s a two-race series, boats setting sail for Macau at 10am on Saturday and returning to Hong Kong on Sunday at 10:30am. The regatta is divided into two divisions – IPF and HKPN – and although the closing date for entries has passed; if you fancy a sail then some boats are probably still looking for a crewman or two, contact the RHKYC to find out. If you just want to catch the excitement and beauty of the flotilla racing out of the harbour, grab yourself a good vantage point in time for the start.
