Ball Hockey
Hockey does not always have to include an ice rink and a puck. Another version of it is ball hockey: the street version of ice hockey but with, what else, a ball. It has grown independently in several countries, including Canada, the USA, Austria, Japan and, within the past few years, it has also infiltrated Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Islanders Ball Hockey Organization (HKIBO) came about one January evening in 2001 when two Canadian friends lamented over drinks about the things they missed from home. One happened to be hockey. Their moan led to action and they gathered some buddies to formed a ball hockey team. What started as whim has now become a legitimate sports organization of approximately 50 members with regular weekly tournaments. The HKIBO meets every Saturday and is open to the public at the YMCA in Jordan between 9 and 11am. The cost of play for the two hours is $100.
