| Phone It
What could be more awesome than an iPhone 3G? An iPhone 3GS, of course. July 9 is the big day Apple’s latest marvel in mobile phones will be available in local stores. The device boasts better battery life, video recording capability, and a long-overdue cut/copy/paste function. Oh, and it’s about twice as fast as the now boring old iPhone 3G. Prices here weren’t available at press time, but the 16-Gb version of the superphone costs US$199 in the US, and the 32-Gb version goes for US$299.

Mickey It
Mickey Mouse has finally gone skater. Check out Asia’s first BLOC 28 exhibition, the second series of works connecting today’s contemporary street art with the world’s most iconic mouse. BLOC 28 was inspired by the work of six young contemporary artists from the US, UK and Japan (Disney fans, of course), and serves as a creative platform for young artistic minds to express Mickey in their own style and voice. Through BLOC 28’s graffiti murals, tear-away posters and high-end collectible products fans get to see Mickey in a totally fresh aesthetic light, and BLOC 28 has been a hit urban culture label since the first series launched in 2008. Series 2 features an international line-up of premier artists such as David Flores, Tenga, Suiko, and Mear One. Check out the exhibition at Times Square between July 8 and August 31. www.bloc28.com

Eco It
Nowadays with everyone worrying about the environment - well saying they do, we’ll see how they react to the plastic bag levy later this month - here’s a chance to wear your words as decoration. Green Rivor has released their Eternal Leaf collection which looks to create nature inspired accessories from nature’s ‘scrap’ - bark, twigs, leaves... taking and polishing it to make ‘objects of beauty to extend your beauty’. www.greenrivor.wordpress.com

Outwait It
And you thought it took forever to finish the last Harry Potter book? Conceptual artist Jonathon Keats has created a new piece called The Longest Story Ever. The tale, which appears on the cover of literary humour journal Opium’s latest issue, is only nine words long, but is obscured by a double layer of black ink that will disappear gradually after being exposed to ultraviolet light. Keats estimates it will be 1,000 years before the ink on any one copy deteriorates enough to make the story legible. It’s a clever idea, but maybe we’ll just stick to less daunting magazines – like the one you’re reading.

Splash It
If you’re one for prehistoric creatures, roll on down to Ocean Park to check out their Prehistoric Summer Splash 2009. From July 1 to August 31, the park will be decked out in prehistoric décor and caveman art and will have life-sized, moving Jurassic dinosaurs powered by high-tech electronics and robotics on show, along with the real living fossils that are regular features at Ocean Park, such as sea stars, sea urchins and horseshoe crabs. If that’s not to your taste, check out scenes from Ice Age 3 in 3-D at the Lowland Ha Ha Factory or get wet participating in a multitude of water games at the Stone Age Water World.

Boom It
Feeling good vibrations this summer? Then check out the new 2nd generation X-mini created by the winners of the portable speaker ‘Red Dot’ design award. This black boom box sports a compact capsule design, but don’t underestimate the cheeky little gizmo – its revolutionary vacuum design produces a hell of a sound that definitely upstages its first model, and is perfect for light travellers serious about their sound. Its best feature though in bc’s opinion is its ‘buddy jack’, which allows multiple X-minis to be linked up to produce an even more powerful audio. Get ahead of the game and check it out at HMV or www.100milligrams.com.
