SUMMARY:Wit
DESCRIPTION:Margaret Edson ‘s Wit begins with Vivian talking to the audience: she is currently a patient in a major research hospital undergoing treatment for advanced ovarian cancer\, and she knows the prognosis is not good. “The Faerie Queene this is not\,” she advises\, alluding to Edmund Spenser’s long poem\, a tribute to the glory of Queen Elizabeth and her virtues. Prior to her hospitalization\, she was Professor Bearing\, teacher and scholar\, specializing in the Holy Sonnets of John Donne. Vivian takes the audience to various scenes in the past and present that illuminate her achievements in the world of scholarship and show what happens to her as she is treated with aggressive chemotherapy for eight months. What the audience sees is what Vivian herself perceives\, and so reality is skewed according to her experience. \nAs Vivian undergoes a series of tests and procedures in the sterile hospital environment\, she takes the audience back twenty years to an encounter with her graduate school professor\, E.M. Ashford\, after which she decides that nothing will stop her from becoming a top-notch scholar and that her chosen area of study will be one of the toughest\, the poetry of John Donne. She also recalls the moment in her childhood with her father when she first fell in love with reading and with words. While in her hospital bed\, Vivian recalls her life in the classroom\, where she was known as a spell-binding lecturer on Donne and a demanding teacher of literature. Ironically\, one of her doctors\, Jason\, is a former student and now a budding researcher in his own profession\, having been inspired by Vivian’s uncompromising scholarship. \nAs the chemotherapy weakens Vivian and the doctors seem to take less and less notice of her pain and diminished capacity\, she comes to rely on her nurse\, Susie\, who sees her suffering and treats her with kindness. She helps Vivian decide on a DNR order (Do Not Resuscitate). As she dies\, having learned much about life\, Vivian is at peace with herself and her mortality.\n*This programme contains nudity scenes \nPlaywright: Margaret Edson\nTranslation: Sarina Cheung\nTranslation: Chan Man Bun\, Angus\nDirector: Tang Wai-kit\nMain Cast: Lo Koon-lan\, Pak Yiu-charn Patrick\, May Fu\, Chan Kin-ho Angus\, Ng Fung-ming\, Shum Kwan-yi\, Sarina Cheung\, Leung Chak-yu\, Tong Ngai-ting \nWit\nWe Draman Group\nDate: 21-24 January\, 2016\nVenue: HK Cultural Centre\, Studio Theatre\nTickets: $240\, $160 from Urbtix\nMore info:\n21-23 January – 8pm\n23-24 January – 2:30pm\nIn Cantonese

SUMMARY:Tian Di Hui
DESCRIPTION:123 Tian Di Hui Live @ Rock Angel Band House \nRock Angel Band House begins it’s Second Anniversary celebrations with a debut CD release concert by Singaporean band Tian Di Hui. The band wooed fans at the Rock Angel Power Band Festival in 2015 and impressed Rock Angel founder Angel Leung enough to sign the band to headline a new series of concerts “Loving Hearts\, Loving Songs” starting on the 23 January to run throughout 2016. \nTian Di Hui 天地會 (Heaven & Earth) are a Chinese progressive rock/metal band from Singapore whose first incarnation heavily influenced by Western bands like Megadeth\, Metallica\, Dream Theater\, Rush… arrived in the summer 1992. The Band re-organised and changed direction in 1996 after deciding that rock and metal can be played just as hard in Chinese. The current line-up featuring Paul Loong (Vocal)\, Kyle Tan (Bass)\, Tony Chia (Guitar)\, YJ Wang (Guitar)\, Willi Tay (Drums) have performed together since then with Yong How (Keyboards) joining in 2015. \nOver the last decade Tian Di Hui have performed across Asia including at Spring Scream Music Festival (Taiwan)\, A Fest (Malaysia)\, Dagehui Music Festival (Malaysia) and 2nd Rock Angel Music Festival (Hong Kong). Highlights of Tian Di Hui’s performance in Hong Kong can be seen on ALCTV youtube channel (www.youtube.com/user/alctvhk). \nThe band’s debut release was the single Still Alive in 2012. Their first album 摇滚不需要理由 Don’t Need No Reason to Rock is out now and features 11 original tracks. There’ll be an autograph session after the concert which will feature songs from the album and a couple of the covers of the band’s favourite songs. \nAsked about the album Tony said “The themes are basically to share with everyone that although we do not have much of a Chinese band scene in Singapore compared to Hong Kong\, we wrote our songs to tell people to be persistent in pursuing your music interest. That’s also a reason why we only released debut album after so many years\, be persistent to see hope\, not by seeing hope then start working hard.” \nThere will be a birthday celebration after-show party\, including buffet\, refreshments\, wine and drinks. \nThose who have birthday in January will be the guest of Rock Angel Band House with free admission. \nTian Di Hui\nDate: 7:30pm\, 23 January\, 2016\nVenue: Rock Angel Band House\nTickets: $250 (Door)\, $200 (Advance)\nMore info:\nwww.facebook.com/events/1729514510617971/ \nBooking: Tel: 2388 9225; or\nInbox: www.facebook.com/rockangelbandhouse; or\nDeposit sum to ISEE Limited HSBC bank account no. 652-155128-838 and bring along the slip for exchange of admission ticket
