Was this the first time the HK Police inadvertently spoke the truth?

That Carrie Lam and her Beijing buddies just see HongKongers as objects to be beaten, kicked and jailed if they stand in the path of Xi and his sycophants using Hong Kong to get evermore personally wealthy.

Xi, we understand you hate Hong Kong. All your citizens flock here to buy safe foods, get proper treatment in hospitals and to put their money in banks where you can’t just steal it from them on a whim.

And then the real truth hits them, that China is a massive prison with the CCP as jailers and thugs controlling and manipulating lives through violence.

You thought to break us with your batons, instead, you united us, made us stronger, resilient. By nature, HongKongers are not violent (and bc doesn’t support or condone violence), so you might win a battle or two, but this is now a ‘war’ you can never ‘win’!

Why because you can never win our hearts and minds, Xi you have shown HongKongers and the world what life in China today is like… Do as we say or get dragged off and beaten.

National Day Fireworks Cancelled

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department have announced that the National Day fireworks in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of China’s formation on 1 October have been cancelled for ‘public safety’ reasons.

The last time the fireworks were cancelled was in 2014 during the Umbrella Movement.

KINO/19 – German Films of 2018/19

The German film festival KINO returns with a selection of German cinema from 2018/ 2019 featuring “exciting stories, big emotions and powerful images.” Organised by the Goethe Institut KINO/19 runs from the 11-20 October with screenings at HKAC Louis Koo Cinema, HK Film Archive and Elements Premiere.

Opening KINO/19 is Balloon, the story of a dramatic escape from East Germany ten years before the Berlin Wall fell in 1989. A Regular Woman is based on the true story of the “honor killing” of the young Turkish woman in Berlin. The journey of the two unequal friends in Roads shows that sometimes you have to travel very far to find out the truth. In Chris the Swiss, a dangerous search for clues leads back to the Balkan war of the 90s, whose violence is made palpable with threatening black-and-white animations, an award-winning documentary thriller from Switzerland.

Talk to Someone

It occurred to Pooh and Piglet that they hadn’t heard from Eeyore for several days, so they put on their hats and coats and trotted across the Hundred Acre Wood to Eeyore’s stick house. Inside the house was Eeyore.

“Hello Eeyore,” said Pooh.

“Hello Pooh. Hello Piglet,” said Eeyore, in a glum sounding voice.

“We just thought we’d check in on you,” said Piglet, “because we hadn’t heard from you, and so we wanted to know if you were okay.”

Eeyore was silent for a moment. “Am I okay?” he asked, eventually. “Well, I don’t know, to be honest. Are any of us really okay? That’s what I ask myself.”

“All I can tell you, Pooh and Piglet, is that right now I feel really rather Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. Which is why I haven’t bothered you. Because you wouldn’t want to waste your time hanging out with someone who is Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All, would you now.”

Pooh looked at Piglet, and Piglet looked at Pooh, and they both sat down, one on either side of Eeyore in his stick house.

Eeyore looked at them in surprise. “What are you doing?”

“We’re sitting here with you,” said Pooh, “because we are your friends. And true friends don’t care if someone is feeling Sad, or Alone, or Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. True friends are there for you anyway. And so here we are.”

“Oh,” said Eeyore. “Oh.” And the three of them sat there in silence, and while Pooh and Piglet said nothing at all; somehow, almost imperceptibly, Eeyore started to feel a very tiny little bit better.

Because Pooh and Piglet were there.

Hong Kong Protests: Wanchai – 15 September, 2019

Sunday’s protest march against the China Extradition Bill started slowly but became another massive peaceful demonstration by HongKongers of all ages against Carrie Lam and her government’s policies.

Later in the day, some protestors vented their frustration agaisnt their MTR choosing Beijing over it’s Hong Kong passengers and the MTR’s allowing the HK police to beat and assault members of the public on MTR trains for no reason.

Livin’ La Dolce Vita – Italia Mia

The first Italia Mia festival opens on the 20th September with the launch of the Leonardo da Vinci Art and Science Then and Now exhibition at City University of Hong Kong and will run through October and November with a variety of events that showcase Italian creativity, innovation and excellence.

The Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong Mr Clemente Contestabile introduced the new festival in this way… “We are proud to present the first ever Italia Mia Festival in Hong Kong and Macao. Italy is rich in heritage, culture, technology and natural beauty; it is well known for the tastiness of its food and wines; it is the homeland of great personalities of the past and of stylish fashion, design and luxury companies. Four Changes as Hong Kong Chase Gold in China

After taking silver in the opening Asian Rugby Sevens Series tournament the Hong Kong men’s sevens squad will be looking to go one better in Huizhou, China (14-15 September) – the second of the three-leg series, which builds up to the Olympic qualifiers in November.

Four players are called up to the men’s squad, which lost to Japan in the final in South Korea, as coach Paul John rotates and looks to freshen up the team. Raef Morrison, Seb Brien, Alex McQueen and Ben Rimene are included in the 13-man travel squad with Rimene the nominated injury replacement for the weekend. Their inclusion sees forwards Kane Boucaut and Toby Fenn, and back Tom McQueen, rested.

The eight-team Series offers no easy groups and Hong Kong face a physical route in Pool B, to a hoped-for cup final appearance, against the Philippines, UAE, and China.

UAE had a muscular debut in Korea, narrowly losing to the Philippines in the plate semi-final before beating Taipei to claim 7th overall.

A motivated China seven, fresh from claiming Bronze in the opener – their first podium finish in nearly a year, are second seeds behind Hong Kong and will prove a stiff test on home ground.

John is confident he has a group suited for the task, saying: “Our squad is strong. This competition is getting more difficult to pick a squad for, now, which is good. There is good competition across the group and we have another 14 or 15 guys training that are not travelling, but are pushing for spaces, and that is what we want.

“The boys were excellent in Korea and got very close to Japan, but we didn’t play as well as we could in the final, and that was a bit disappointing. We want to go as far as we possibly can again this weekend. But there is no use in talking about it, until we have an opportunity to play our first game. We’re only thinking about the UAE and China, our day one opponents.

“China were very good in Korea. They can give us a hard time and we are probably playing UAE at the worst time to get someone like that, in the first game of t tournament. It’s a tough group and we need to be on top of our game to come through,” he added.
