Terry Fox Run Hong Kong

The Terry Fox Run is an annual charity event inspired by a young Canadian activist who died in 1981 while running across Canada to raise money to fight cancer. The 4th Terry Fox Run Hong Kong (TFRHK) will be held on Saturday 5 November 2016 at Renaissance College Hong Kong in Ma On Shan.

The ‘run’ is a 3km, 5km or 10km non-competitive, family-oriented run or walk. There’s no enrolment fee for participation or minimum donation required, TFRHK welcomes everyone from running enthusiasts to families with kids to school groups and corporate teams – to join.

Registration is now open.

Psychedelic Timelapse Hyperlapse Hong Kong Video

Photographer Kirill Neiezhmakov has created a stunning video to capture his impressions of Hong Kong. Shot in September 2015 this is not your typical timelapse video. It’s a timelapse / hyperlapse video with a hefty dose of psychedelic elements and a tight soundtrack.

The video was made using two Canon cameras, a variety of lenses and a GoPro Hero 4. Post production was done in Adobe After Effects, Lightroom and LRTimelapse.

Ho Man Tin and Whampoa Stations Open 23 October, 2016

The MTR announced today that passenger service on the extended Kwun Tong Line to the new Ho Man Tin and Whampoa stations will start on the 23 October.

When the new service begins, Whampoa Station will become the terminal station of the Kwun Tong Line – although not all trains will actually terminate there, some will finish at Ho Man Tin.

The estimated journey time between Whampoa and Yau Ma Tei stations will be approximately 5 minutes. While a trip from Whampoa to Admiralty will take approximately 15 minutes.

The frequency of trains during peak periods for Ho Man Tin Station will be approximately 2 minutes while for Whampoa Station it will be approximately 4 minutes.

Mandela Exhibition Opening @ HKU – 13 September, 2016

The Mandela Exhibition, at HKU’s Main Library until 28 Sept, explores the iconic figures life through six themes: character, comrade, leader, prisoner, negotiator and statesman. Although the exhibition is small it gives insight into a man whose words and ideals many of today’s leaders could pay more attention to. His auto-biography Long Walk to Freedom and collected speeches In His Own Words offer more depth.

Child’s Handwritten Election Flyer Goes Viral

A child’s elections flyer that went viral recently has gone largely unnoticed by the English press. The photocopied, handwritten letter was originally handed to Kwun Tong resident James Au as he was walking home from work one evening. Wanting to share the message, he snapped a photo of it and posted it onto Instagram and Facebook. At the time of writing his fb post has been shared over 19,000 times.
