Great American Texas BBQ @ Kowloon Cricket Club – 5 December, 2019

The annual Great American Texas BBQ is a feast of beef, where Hong Kong’s US beef importers showcase their favourite cuts cooked in a truly mouthwatering range of styles.

For over twenty years the BBQ has been hosted and sponsored by the Texas Beef Council, USMEF and USDA with Taiwanese band Whisky River returning to soundtrack the evening. Among those attending were the new US Consul General Hanscom Smith and USMEF CEO Dan Halstrom.

World Champion BBQ-master Timothy Broderick of Pit Ventures was back showcasing his smoked brisket and short ribs.

The mutual shared appreciation and enjoyment of good food stimulates conversation and the creation of new friendships and business opportunities.

While good food engenders conversation, strangely great food often silences it. The flavours and textures creating a sensory overload in the brain such that all you can do is luxuriate in the moment, before joyfully taking another bite…

National Day Fireworks Cancelled

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department have announced that the National Day fireworks in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of China’s formation on 1 October have been cancelled for ‘public safety’ reasons.

The last time the fireworks were cancelled was in 2014 during the Umbrella Movement.

Livin’ La Dolce Vita – Italia Mia

The first Italia Mia festival opens on the 20th September with the launch of the Leonardo da Vinci Art and Science Then and Now exhibition at City University of Hong Kong and will run through October and November with a variety of events that showcase Italian creativity, innovation and excellence.

The Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong Mr Clemente Contestabile introduced the new festival in this way… “We are proud to present the first ever Italia Mia Festival in Hong Kong and Macao. Italy is rich in heritage, culture, technology and natural beauty; it is well known for the tastiness of its food and wines; it is the homeland of great personalities of the past and of stylish fashion, design and luxury companies. Italia Mia is here in Hong Kong to bring everyone a taste of Italian flair and character without leaving the city. The Festival may tempt and entice you to travel to Italy as well.”

The Chainsmokers – World War Joy @ AsiaWorld Expo – 23 August, 2019

The Chainsmokers returned to Hong Kong on their World War Joy tour as Alex Pall, Drew Taggart with drummer Matt McGuire performed many of their hits including Roses, Paris, Don’t Let Me Down.

The concert at AsiaWorld Expo on 23 August, 2019 also included recent singles Sick Boy, Everybody Hates Me and Who Do You Love and Drew jumping off stage to greet fans. The concert ended with the Grammy-nominated song Something Just Like This.

Dear Trevor
You talk a good game, but when it comes to actually supporting your talk you seem to disappear…?
 
Sad to see you have cancelled your upcoming Hong Kong show. HK is a wonderfully safe city. There’s lots to see and do and it’s easy to avoid any of the protests.
 
The protestors are friendly polite HongKongers of all ages frustrated at their incompetent leaders. If you come across them you’ll invariably find them helpful, intelligent and friendly.
 
If you get a lung full of tear gas or a face full of pepper-spray from our aggressive overzealous police – that’s today’s reality for Hongkongers old and young. But it’s a tale to tell in your shows and on TV.
 
And the only way that’s likely to happen is if you actively want it to. The actions are slow-moving and not hard to avoid.
 
I would though avoid wearing a white t-shirt on the streets, unless of course you enjoy sloppy group kisses from tattooed men holding small dildos.
 
There are occasional transport delays, but nothing that’ll affect your visit significantly. And if your flights delayed our friendly bar owners will be happy to serve you cold expensive beer all night while you wait.
 
Again sad to see you’re not coming, the daily fabrications from Carrie Lam and the HK Police are stronger than most building foundations in China and would give you material for multiple three hour shows.

Tasteful Europe Reception @ Renaissance Hotel – 15 August, 2019

The Tasteful Europe Reception at the Renaissance Hotel on the 15 August, 2019 featured European cuisine based on Polish products served by Polish Chefs in Hong Kong.

At the reception, a new three-year Tasteful Europe promotional campaign was announced to highlight the range of quality food products available in Europe and especially Poland.
