Hong Kong Beach Festival 2014

Hong Kong Beach Festival 2014

The wonderful sounding Hong Kong Beach Festival 2014 takes place from the 11-26 October at several locations across the territory. It’s sponsored by the HK Jockey Club and organized by six National Sports Associations, namely Hong Kong Canoe Union, Hong Kong Football Association, Handball Association of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Rowing Association, Hong Kong Rugby Football Union and the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong.

Except all is not quite as it seems… while the Opening Ceremony will be held at Repulse Bay on October 11, 2014. With the Beach Rugby and the Rowing competitions also being held in Repulse Bay. There’s sea kayaking and surfski competitions in Stanley on 26 October.

Only in Hong Kong, with all the lovely beaches we have, would we construct a sand court on a playground… Yep the venue for Beach Football, Beach Handball and Beach Volleyball will be at the Sha Tsui Road Playground, Tsuen Wan where a sand court has been built. The Closing Ceremony will also be held there on October 26, 2014.

Toulouse and Racing Métro will be returning to Hong Kong this November for a ‘friendly’ match. Toulouse coach Guy Novès confirmed the fixture would be taking place for a second consecutive year. Toulouse ran out 19-12 winners in 2013.

Former Toulouse wing Hosea Gear told AFP after last year’s victory “Today was also about spreading the brand of both our clubs. It was a no-holds-barred game and both teams didn’t take penalties as the idea was to play as expansive a game as possible,” .

The timing of the fixture on November 15, means that leading internationals for both teams will be unavailable due to the Test matches taking place that month.

These ticket prices are Early Bird prices which according to the event website are on sale until 22 August, however Ticketflap has early bird prices until 29 August. Actual ticket prices are still unavailable.

According to the website there are only 400 tickets for Friday’s launch, but there’s still plenty on sale so tickets do not appear to be selling well. Hardly surprising given the few actual actual hidden among the pr spin and spelling mistakes. Lets see if they can get their engines running smoothly soon…
