Who are HK Indigenous?

HK Indigenous is one of several new political groups that has evolved from the experiences learned during the initial months of the Umbrella Movement. They “want to break away from the pseudo democratic roadmap and put direct pressure on the government with the right means of protest. We have to alert the government that the indigenous value of Hong Kong cannot be washed away or sold.”

This is the HK Indigenous Charter in English if you didn’t know what they are about:

Hong Kong Indigenous: Upholding Indigenous Virtue Against Suppression

18 years have passed since the handover of Hong Kong. “One Country, Two System” is just a scam under the Communist Party rule. Day after day we local Hong Kong people lose our rights and indigenous values to the Chinese Communist Party, while the pan-democratic legislators indulge in their own ‘China Dream.’

Hong Kong people are fed up with this. We rallied against the National Education Reform and the North East New Territories Development. We took part in the Umbrella Revolution. We are doing more and more to get this message across to the government – we are not going to back away or accept our fate lying down. The pseudo democrats time after time created fake protests which achieved nothing but keeping the peace for the authorities. Hong Kong people are being betrayed and kept away from true democracy, as well as being hindered in developing our own indigenous virtue.

We are a group of nameless Hong Kong people who are on the frontline of protests. Since the old resistance methods have failed against the authorities, we have no choice but to stand out and break the stalemate.

Hong Kong Indigenous was founded after we learned from the lessons from the Umbrella Revolution. We want to break away from the pseudo democratic roadmap and put direct pressure on the government with the right means of protest. We have to alert the government that the indigenous value of Hong Kong cannot be washed away or sold. Thus we are upholding indigenous virtues, as we the people own this city.

We are Hong Kong people. We have the spirit to overcome whatever challenges are thrown at us. We have overcome 1967, 1989, 1997, SARS and avian flu. What is there to fear?

Hong Kong Indigenous leads the way in the new era of protest, where we would not be fooled by pan-democrats or ignored by the government.

If you are proud of the values that Hong Kong People have created during our rich history, then please join us or support us in this fight.

Together we are strong and can’t be defeated.

Hong Kong Women’s Sevens 2015 – Official Draw

Tournament Director Ruth Mitchell

Twelve teams from five continents will be taking part in the Hong Kong Women’s Sevens 2015, the 18th anniversary of this pioneering women’s rugby competition.

To draw the teams into pools, the 12 teams were ‘grouped’ based on their current ranking on the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series as well as rankings in other regional competitions and past performances at the Hong Kong Women’s Sevens.

The results of the draw are:
Pool A
Canada
Argentina
Samoa
Mexico

Pool B
China
Hong Kong
Kazakhstan
Singapore

Pool C
Japan
Netherlands
Papua New Guinea
Tunisia.

A little groan and a few ironic laughs were heard as the all Asian pool B took shape – the Hong Kong players had been looking forward to taking on some new opponents – having played all three teams in their group several times recently.

This year’s tournament is a two day event on the 26-27th March. After the pool games the top 8 teams will go into the Quarter-finals which are a knock-out format with the final at the HK Stadium in front of 40,000 fans.

Hong Kong women’s sevens coach Anna Richards, who was inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame in 2014, is looking forward to the tournament, noting the strength of Women’s Sevens World Series teams China and Canada and exciting newcomers Mexico and Argentina, who she said “strengthened the competition”.

Die Fledermaus (The Bat) @ HKAPA – 24, 26, 28 March

Die Fledermaus (The Bat) @ HKAPA - 24, 26, 28 March

“This is a story about marriage and friendship, love and forgiveness.” – Carolyn Choa, Director of Die Fledermaus (The Bat)

After almost 30 years of performing and writing dance music with enormous success, Johann Strauss II, “the Waltz King”, turned his attention to the theatre. Inspired by Offenbach and encouraged by his first wife, Jetty Treffz, he began to write operettas in 1871. In 1874, he wrote ‒ “in 42 nights” – Die Fledermaus, his third operetta, together with the librettists Karl Haffner and Richard Genée. The piece quickly became a huge success and is now widely regarded as one of the finest of this musical genre.

As with Strauss’ Waltzes and Polkas – what makes the music of Die Fledermaus so intriguing is first and foremost the inexhaustible richness of melody, but also the originality of invention and the sparkling orchestration. This is timeless music, which has its deeper roots in the music of Mozart and Schubert and which is in its naturalness and effortlessness comparable to theirs.

Conductor: Patrick Furrer
