Now in it’s fifth year the HK100 is an ultra endurance race which starts at Pak Tam Chung on the Sai Kung Peninsula and covers some of the most beautiful scenery in Hong Kong, including remote and unspoilt beaches, ancient forests, nature trails, reservoirs and steep hills. The course is based around the famous Maclehose Trail, but with some diversions to ensure that runners spend more time in its most scenic sections, as well as finishing with the descent from Hong Kong’s highest peak (Tai Mo Shan). The course involves a cumulative elevation gain of over 4500 meters and the cut-off time is 32 hours.

The Showdown at Sands: Zou Shiming vs. Amnat Ruenroeng

Zou Shiming China’s Olympic gold medal winner steps back into the ring as he attempts to win his first-ever world title. A celebrated amateur boxer and three-time Olympic medallist Zou Shiming is putting his undefeated pro record on the line to challenge undefeated International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight world champion Amnat Ruenroeng. Zou and Amnat fought three times as amateurs, Amnat winning the first fight with Zou winning their last two contests.

The undercard bouts include an IBF light welterweight title eliminator between unbeaten Chinese puncher Ik Yang (18-0-0-1, 13 KOs) and Thailand’s Patomsuk Pathompothong (30-2-1, 18 KOs), as well as an NABO junior middleweight title contest between Australian fighter Daniel Dawson (40-4-1, 26 KOs) and American boxer Glen Tapia (22-1, 14 KOs).

Also fighting in separate bouts are two local favourites – undefeated super welterweight prospect “The Macao Kid” Ng Kuok Kun (6-0, 2 KOs) and Hong Kong’s undefeated Top-Five super flyweight contender Rex “The Wonder Kid” Tso (15-0, 9 KOs), who will be fighting for the vacant WBA international super flyweight title.

This Week @ The AIA Great European Carnival

Battle of the Bands

The largest Battle of the Bands competition Hong Kong has ever seen kicks off this week at The AIA Great European Carnival, with over 100 bands from the SAR entered.  You can expect to see a wide variety of musical genres from folk, to indie, alternative, rock, punk and heavy metal. The bands will also play in a variety of languages, including Cantonese, Mandarin, English, French and more.

Bands will compete in the first rounds every Thursday and Friday evening at the Carnival’s Live Stage and are each given the opportunity to play two songs within an eight minute period. There are two categories including the Students (performing from 4-6pm) and Open (6pm-9pm). The Semi Finals will take place on 5th and 6th of February and the Final will take place on Friday the 13th of February.

Supported by The AIA Great European Carnival, the event is organised by The Underground and is also sponsored by Parson’s Music. Parson’s Music was established in 1986 and is one of the leading and most prestigious multinational musical companies in both Mainland China and Hong Kong. Parsons have their own production line for a wide range of cool musical instruments (pianos, guitars, percussion, string & wind instruments), a strong retail network and well-found music centres for educating music talents.

Other prizes include recording time with Sammy So (from the band Kolor) and Jon Lee (This Music Studio) as well as Parson’s coupons and trophies for the champion bands.
