HK Cricket Match Reports: One-Day Premier League – 11 October, 2015

Early morning rain delayed the start of all three Premier League matches but once play got underway, results were achieved without having to resort to Duckworth/Lewis calculations.

DLSWCC Prism v KCC KARP
There was an exciting finish at Kowloon Cricket Club where DLSWCC Prism stunned hosts KCC KARP by one wicket in a match reduced to 48-overs per side affair after a late start.

After winning the toss KCC KARP elected to bat first but they might have regretted that decision after losing both openers with only one run on the board. Run scoring proved difficult and Dan Pascoe’s 37 was the highest score for KCC as they were eventually dismissed for 153 in 46.3 overs. Ehsan Khan continued his good form with the ball as he picked up 3/37 from his nine over spell.

DLSWCC Prism’s innings also got off to a calamitous start and they were reduced to 3/4 inside five overs with Adil Mehmood picking up a brace. The middle order struggled and at 8/82, the game looked all but over for DLSWCC. But KCC hadn’t counted on Nadeem Ahmed and Niaz Ali who combined for a ninth wicket partnership of 71 runs. The pair batted brilliant to bring DLSWCC back into the game but they nearly threw it away when Niaz was run-out for 23 with the scores tied. Cool heads prevailed and DLSWCC got the final run needed for victory with Nadeem finishing unbeaten on 47.
At KCC (matched reduced to 48 overs per side): KCC KARP 153 from 46.3 overs lost to Diasqua LSWCC Prism 9/154 from 42.5 overs by one wicket.

HKCC v HKCA Under-19s
Over at Hong Kong Cricket Club, HKCC had little trouble with HKCA Under-19s with the hosts winning comfortably by 88 runs.

The early morning’s rain meant the match got off to a late start and both innings were reduced to 47 overs per side. HKCC batted first after winning the toss and they reached 9-271 from their 47 overs. Opener David Jacquier led the HKCC charge with a fine 91 from 106 balls while Nizakat Khan (52) and Courtney Kruger (44) also made telling contributions. Opening bowlers Tanveer Ahmed (3/35) and Waqas Khan (4/44) were the best for the HKCA Under-19s.

Raag Kapur contributed 36-runs at the top of the order for the HKCA Under-19s but he received little support as they slipped to 5/65 inside 16 overs. Awais Mohammad and Chris Cater got them to 100 but both batsmen fell in quick succession as the Under-19s slumped to 7/102. A rear-guard battle led by Ninad Shah moved the score on to 165 but Courtney Kruger’s introduction to the bowling crease saw the innings wrapped in quick order. Kruger grabbed the last three wickets to fall, including that of Shah who scored an attractive 50 from 62 balls, as the HKCA Under-19s were dismissed for 183 in the 43rd over.
At HKCC (match reduced to 47 overs per side): HKCC 9/271 from 47 overs beat HKCA Under-19s 183 from 42.5 overs by 88 runs.

Independents v PACC
In the third match of the day, PACC had an easy win over Independents at Mission Road.

Wet weather reduced the match to 44-overs per innings and when play finally got underway, the Independents batted first after winning the toss. However, it was the PACC opening bowlers that grabbed the early advantage as Aizaz Khan and Kamran Mohammad grabbed two wickets each to leave the Independents reeling at 4/31 in the 9th over. Mohsin Khan then picked three wickets to reduce the Independents to 8/68 after 25 overs. A battling run-a-ball 63 from Sikandar Zafar lifted Independents over the 100 mark and on to a final total 139 all out in 38.5 overs.

The PACC opening partnership between Daniyal Bukhari and Qasim Khan put on 90 runs in 19 overs, effectively ending the contest. Bukhari was the only PACC wicket to fall when he was caught and bowled by Asif Hussain for 53. Qasim (55*) and Saqib Khan (22*) combined in an unbroken 2nd wicket partnership of 50 runs to ease PACC to victory in the 32nd over.
At Mission Road (match reduced to 44 overs per side): Independents 139 from 38.5 overs lost to PACC 1/140 from 31.5 overs by nine wickets.

HK Women’s Cricket Match Reports: T20 Cup – 10 October, 2015

KCC Maidens scored an easy nine-wicket over USRC in the first match of the day. USRC batted first but could only manage to score 61 from 18 overs, with sundries contributing 48 runs to their cause. The KCC Maidens had little trouble surpassing that total in less than five overs.
At PKVR Reservoir: USRC 61 from 18 overs lost to KCC Maidens 1/66 from 4.4 overs by nine wickets.

In the second match of the day, HKCC Cavaliers beat CCC Fung Wong by 31 runs. Emma Lai scored 49 as the Cavaliers reached 3/145 from their 20 overs. In reply, Kary Chan hit 51 not out but her efforts were not enough as CCC Fung Wong were restricted to 8/114.
At PKVR Reservoir: HKCC Cavaliers 3/145 from 20 overs beat CCC Fung Wong 8/114 from 20 overs by 31 runs.

The day’s final match saw HKCC Willow Wielders maintain their unbeaten run with a comprehensive ten-wicket victory over PACC. Batting first with only 7 players, PACC were overwhelmed for 53 – at total which the Willow Wielders had little trouble knocking off in just 4.4 overs with Sara Young scoring 27 not out.
At PKVR Reservoir: PACC 53 from 14 overs lost to HKCC Willow Wielders 0/55 from 4.4 overs by ten wickets.

HK Cricket Match Reports: Saturday 10 October, 2015

Saturday Championship Division 1
At Hong Kong Cricket Club, there was a tied result (the second this season) with HKCC Nomads and HKCC Gap Ramblers sharing the spoils.

Gap Ramblers found themselves batting first after losing the toss but their openers got them away to a good start with 41 runs for the first wicket. David Varley led the batsmen with 61 while Justin Alexander boosted the score with 34 not out from number 10 as Gap Ramblers finished on 8/178 from their 35 overs.

Nomads got off to a poor start, losing their top three batsmen with only seven runs on the board. They looked dead and buried at 6/80 but some positive lower order batting, especially from Pushpendra Sharma and Luke Rewega, got them on level terms. A run out from a direct hit, as the batsmen tried for a second run to win the game, saw the match finish all square. For Nomads, Toby Brown top scored with 53 while Raag Kapur picked up 3/40 for Gap Ramblers.
At HKCC: HKCC Gap Ramblers 8/178 from 35 overs tied with HKCC Nomads 178 from 34.4 overs.

Over at Kowloon Cricket Club, KCC Saracens enjoyed a three-wicket victory over HKCC Witherers. Witherers batted first after being sent in by Saracens but they could only muster 9/123 from their 35 overs with Charlie Bright’s 36 the only score of any significance.

Ninad Shah led the Saracens reply with a fine 46, while Simandeep Singh finished things off with an unbeaten 31. Ciaran McAssey was the pick of the Witherers’ bowlers, claiming 3/14 from six overs.
At KCC: HKCC Witherers 9/123 from 35 overs lost to KCC Saracens 7/125 from 32.5 overs by three wickets.

Saturday Championship Division 2
In Division two action, SCC Lancers, CCC Hung See and USRC/MCC all secured wins.

At Mission Road, USRC/MCC batted first against Laguna Gully and they amassed 8/208 from their 35 overs with Mohammad Awais hitting a splendid 111 not out. Umar Mohammad also hit 48 for USRC/MCC while Pranav Shah picked up 4/32 for Laguna Gully.

Laguna Gully’s reply never quite got going and they were eventually dismissed for 148 from 30.3 overs, with sundries the top score. Shan Sawar was the best of the nine USRC/MCC bowlers used, with 4/27 from 5 overs.
At Mission Road: USRC/MCC 8/208 from 35 overs beat Laguna Gully 148 from 30.3 overs by 60 runs.

At PKVR Park, DLSW Spartans opted to field first after winning the toss and they had early success as they reduced SCC Lancers to 3/16 and then 5/39 with Niaz Ali picking four wickets. But the Lancers’ lower order batsmen prospered and they finished on 208 all out off their 35 overs with skipper Prakash Chakravarti hitting 49 and Uday Shetty getting 57. Niaz finished with 4/18 from his seven over spell. Spartans’ lost both their opener’s cheaply but they progressed their score to 3/117 before Suresh Pandey fell for a team-high 40. After that, wickets fell regularly and Spartans were eventually all out for 180 in the 32nd over. Nitesh Talwar was the best of the Lancers bowlers with 4/22 while Uday Shetty completed a good all-round performance with 3/36.
At PKVR Park: SCC Lancers 207 from 35 overs beat DLSW Spartans 180 from 31.5 overs by 27 runs.

Shin-high long grass greeted the CCC Hung See and Pioneers teams at the Police Training College when they met to do battle in the ‘Chinese derby’. The teams did their best in the conditions with CCC Hung See maintaining their winning streak over Pioneers.

CCC Hung See won the toss and put Pioneers into bat. Skipper Damien Yee led the way with 41 at the top of the order as Pioneers reached 9/111 from their 35 overs. Ady Lee was the pick of the Hung See bowlers with 3/20 from his seven over spell. Adrian ‘Jet’ Lee got the Hung See innings off to a solid start and he and Adam Marrin posted 67 for the first wicket. Solid batting saw the Hung See innings pass 100 with no further loss but with two runs to win, ‘Jet’ was run out for 43. CCC Hung See cruised to victory in 24 overs to earn a bonus point.
At Police Training College: Pioneers CC 9/111 from 35 overs lost to CCC Hung See 3/112 from 24 overs by seven wickets.

HK Cricket Match Reports: Monday, 29 September 2015

One-Day Premier League
One Premier League match was played at Mission Road on the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday with the HKCA Under-19s prevailing by four wickets over PACC in an unbelievable finish.

PACC started positively after winning the toss and Hussain Butt and Daniyal Bukhari shared an opening partnership of 50 before Waqas Khan bowled Butt for 17. Bukhari continued to prosper and he and Skhawat Ali put on another 84-runs for the 4th wicket before Bukhari departed for 85. Skhawat (58) and Aizaz Khan (34) then added another 69 runs before both batsmen fell with the score on 225. The PACC innings eventually closed on 6/245 from their 50 overs.

The HKCA Under-19s innings also got off to a good start with Niraj Patwari and Raag Kapur putting 39 runs on the board for the first wicket but both batsmen were back in the pavilion before the score had reached 50. Akbar Khan then scored 51 but his was the fourth wicket to fall as the HKCA U19s score reached 114. Waqas Khan (56), Giacomo Lamplough (20) and Mohammad Awais (43*) batted extremely well to keep the scoreboard ticking over but by the end of the 49th over, 21 runs were still needed for victory. Two sixes in the final over, bowled by Mohammad Kamran, left the U19s needing to score four off the last ball but they could only manage two and the PACC players started celebrating their win. However, the bowler had failed to inform umpire Clive Howard that he was changing to bowl around the wicket so the umpire called a no-ball, meaning the scores were now tied. With the final ball having to be re-bowled, and a free hit on offer, the batsmen scampered through for a quick run, despite the facing batsman being cleaned bowled, to give the HKCA U19s victory by four wickets.

HK Women’s Cricket Match Reports: Sunday, 27 September 2015

Women’s T20 Cup
After a one-week break, action in the Women’s T20 Cup competition resumed in earnest on Sunday.

DLSWCC’s Shanzeen Shahzad brought up the first century of the women’s season with an unbeaten 114 against USRC in the second T20 match at PKVR Reservoir. Shanzeen shared an impressive unbroken opening partnership of 206 with Manpreet Kaur who finished on 68 not out. Shanzeen then grabbed 3/14 as USRC was dismissed for 51 in the 14th over.
At PKVR Reservoir: DLSWCC Wasps 0/206 from 20 overs beat USRC 51 from 13.3 overs by 155 runs.

In a derby match at Hong Kong Cricket Club, Willow Wielders had no trouble dispensing of Cavaliers by a 101-runs. Willow Wielders batted well to score 9/131 from their 20 overs with Chan Sau Ha hitting 31 and Mariko Hill top-scoring with 50. Cavaliers’ skipper Emma Lai was the pick of the bowlers with 4/17 from her four over spell.

The Cavaliers’ batters had no answer to the Willow Wielders bowling attack and they were skittled for just 30 in 12 overs. Starring with the ball was Marina Lamplough with 6/13 – George will be chuffed.
At HKCC: HKCC Willow Wielders 9/131 from 20 overs beat HKCC Cavaliers 30 from 12 overs by 101 runs.

KCC Maidens enjoyed a 9-wicket victory over PACC in the first match of the day at PKVR Reservoir. Batted first, the PACC Women scored 4/78 from their 20 overs with sundries contribution 59. The Maidens opening pair scored 73 runs with Reenu Gill hitting 26 and Anum Ahmad finishing unbeaten on 24.
At PKVR Reservoir: PACC 4/78 from 20 overs lost to KCC Maidens 1/79 from 11 overs by 9 wickets.

HK Cricket Match Reports: Sunday, 27 September 2015

One-Day Premier League
With HKCC closed for its 40th Anniversary celebrations, the One-Day Premier League action switched to Mission Road where the Independents took on Diasqua LSWCC Prism.

Batting first after winning the toss, the Independents never recovered after losing their top four batsmen with only 43 runs on the board and they were eventually dismissed for just 101 in 31 overs. Top scorer was Sikander Zafar with 28 while Nadeem Ahmed claimed 3/20.

A 92-run opening stand between Anas Kahn (36*) and Jangzeb Khan (49) saw DLSWCC Prism advance strongly to a decisive victory in just 12.3 overs.
At Mission Road: Independents 101 from 31 overs lost to Diasqua LSWCC Prism 1/102 from 12.3 overs by 9 wickets.

There was another low scoring game at Kowloon Cricket Club where Pakistan Association played their opening match against hosts KCC.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, the PACC top order were skittled by Ryan Campbell, who picked up 3/4 in his five over spell. Ishtiaq Mohammad was PACC’s top-scorer with 27 in a disappointing total of 130 from 42.3 overs. KCC’s strong performance was clouded with the loss of wicket-keeper Jamie Atkinson with a dislocated finger.

The loss of Atkinson did not deter KCC and a 74-run opening partnership between Irfan Ahmed (49) and Ninad Shah (30) got them off to a flying start. KCC’s progress slowed briefly as Ishtiaq Mohammad claimed four quick wickets, but with such a small total to defend, and with plenty of batting in reserve, KCC eased to victory in 24.2 overs. Ishtiaq finished with 4/16 off nine overs.
At KCC: PACC 130 from 42.3 overs lost to KCC 4/131 from 24.2 overs by 6 wickets.

HK Cricket Match Reports: Saturday, 26 September 2015

A heavy downpour in the mid-afternoon affected all Saturday Championship matches but it was a credit that teams achieved results in a couple of matches after waiting out the rain break.

Saturday Championship Division 1
At Hong Kong Cricket Club, Nomads suffered a rare defeat at the hands of fellow HKCC team Witherers in a match reduced to 21 overs per innings.

Batting first after winning the toss, the Nomads innings was interrupted after 16.2 overs for rain, after the resumption of play, the score progressed to 6/161 from 21 overs. Top scorers were Stephen Hawinkels with 48 and Paul Watkins with 31. In reply, Witherers’ Andrew Jacobs hit 74 as they raced to victory in 18 overs for the loss of four wickets.

The match was one of a number of games played at HKCC over the long weekend to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the HKCC’s move to the Wong Nai Chung Gap venue.
At HKCC: HKCC Nomads 6/161 from 21 overs lost to HKCC Witherers 4/165 from 18 overs by six wickets (match reduced to 21 overs per innings).

There was a derby match at Kowloon Cricket Club where Crusaders faced Saracens. Unfortunately, the heavy rain curtailed proceedings after 17 overs with Saracens in a spot of bother at 6/60, and no further play was possible. Damian Kelleher claimed 4/16 for Crusaders.
At KCC: KCC Saracens 6/60 from 17 overs drew with KCC Crusaders.

There was a similar outcome in the match at Mission Road between DLSWCC Sarjan and CCC Jing Sun. Rain forced play to stop in the ninth over and no further play was possible after the bowlers’ run-ups and outfield were soaked. The match was abandoned with CCC Jing Sun’s score on 1/37.
At Mission Road: CCC Jing Sun 1/37 from 8.5 overs drew with DLSWCC Sarjan.

Saturday Championship Division 2
A result was achieved at PKVR Park where Lamma defeated Kai Tak five wickets. Kai Tak batted first and had totalled 5/87 from 17.4 overs when the rain stopped play. Upon a resumption of play, Lamma were given 17 overs to chase down a revised score of 84, which they achieved with five balls to spare.
At PKVR Park: Kai Tak CC 5/87 from 17.4 overs lost to Lamma CC 4/84 from 16.1 overs by five wickets (target 18 from 17 overs).

HK Cricket Match Reports – 19-20 September, 2015

Four matches were played in the Saturday Championship withHong Kong Cricket Club Nomads and Kowloon Cricket Club Saracens making bold statements of intent in Division One with strong early performances while USRC/MCC and Kai Tak also enjoyed victories in Division Two.

Saturday Championship Division 1
At Hong Kong Cricket Club, defending champions HKCC Nomads got their title defence off to a winning start with a strong performance against Pakistan Association. Electing to bowl after winning the toss, Nomads dismissed PACC for 194 in the 34th over, with Ravi Mulchandani picking up 3/39 from his 7 over spell. For PACC, Zamir Ali top scored with 55 while Mehtab Ali scored 40.

A 50-run opening partnership saw Nomads away to a positive start with skipper Kym Graham hitting 30 and from there the HKCC batsmen were seldom troubled. A 97-run third wicket partnership between Kabir Sodhi (41) and A Shephard (84*) lifted Nomads to the brink and victory was eventually achieved in 30.1 overs.
At HKCC: Pakistan Association 194 from 33.2 overs lost HKCC Nomads 4/198 from 30.1 overs runs

At Kowloon Cricket Club, a new-look KCC Saracens unit achieved a bonus point victory over Centaurs thanks to a dominant batting performance. Saracens notched up an impressive 5/233 from their 35 overs after electing to bat first. Chris Cater (85) and Ninad Shah (78) shared a 138-run third wicket partnership while Simandeep Singh (61) and Carter added another 76 for the fourth wicket.

In reply, Centaurs made a good start with the openers putting on 57. Four of the top five batsmen scored over 20 but none reached 30 and Centaurs slumped from 3/103 to 135 all out. Ansh Lulla mopped up the tail with 4/29 from five overs.
At KCC: KCC Saracens 5/233 from 35 overs beat Centaurs 135 from 34.5 overs by 98 runs.

Saturday Championship Division 2
Kai Tak bounced back from their loss to SCC Lancers to beat CCC Hung See by 90 runs at Police Training College. Batting first after winning the toss, Kai Tak scored 6/189 from their 35 overs with Ali Williams top scoring with 93. In reply, CCC Hung See were dismissed for 99 with Kai Tak skipper Mohsin Naqvi claiming 3/6 off seven overs.
At PTC: Kai Tak 6/189 from 35 overs beat CCC Hung See 99 from 34.3 overs by 90 runs.

At PKVR Park, USRC/MCC and HKU fought out a close game with USRC/MCC prevailing by 29 runs. USRC/MCC batted first and they scored 213 off 34.3 overs with Umar Mohammad hitting an impressive 72 while Sikandar Zafar scored 45. Ashwin Dokania led HKU’s reply with 41, but his was a lone hand as six other HKU batsmen posted double figure scores but none could go past 17. HKU were eventually dismissed for 184.
At PKVR Park: USRC/MCC 213 from 34.3 overs beat HKU 184 from 33.5 overs by 29 runs.

One-Day Premier League
A thrilling One-Day Premier League match was played at Hong Kong Cricket Club with defending champions HKCC prevailing in the end by the narrowest of margins.

The Independents batted first after winning the toss but they got off to the worst possible start, losing three wickets with just one run on the board. A 108-run fourth wicket partnership between Jonathan Foo and Akbar Khan lifted the Independents’ score to 109 before Khan was dismissed for 23. The 25-year-old Foo, who represented Guyana in the 2010 and 2013 Caribbean T20 competitions, went on to score a brilliant 109 with the score on 180. Foo received useful support from Awais Mohammad who finished unbeaten on 38 as Independents reached 8/217 from their 50 overs. Tim Cutler and Daljeet Singh picked up two wickets each for HKCC.

In reply, HKCC also lost an early wicket and they were reduced to 4/61 before a 50-run partnership between Nizakat Khan and Matt Twomey lifted them over the 100 mark. A flurry of wickets then saw the hosts slip to 7/113 but Nizakat Khan engineered a rear-guard battle with the tail-enders to get HKCC back into the match. Nizakat was eventually dismissed for 106 but his wicket soon saw the last wicket pair at the crease with still 16 runs needed. In a tense finish, Giacomo Lamplough (17*) and Anton Bunton (9*) secured the final few runs needed for a one-wicket victory. Jonathan Foo and Mudassar Hussain were the best of the Independents’ bowlers, with two wickets apiece.
At HKCC: Independents 8/217 from 50 overs lost to HKCC 9/221 from 42.1 overs by 1 wicket.
