HK Tennis Open 2014 – Tiffany Wu
Tiffany Wu Ho Ching ranked 828 in the world started slow, losing the first three games against former world number 25 Jarmila Gajdosova in her attempt to qualify for the main tournament. Wu rallied strongly to draw even at 4-4 in the first set. The Australian – who showed her frustration at how hard Wu fought – though had too much for Hong Kong’s no1 running out a straight sets winner 6-4, 6-2.
The Hong Kong Tennis Open runs until the 14 September at Victoria Park – tickets available on the door or at www.hongkongtennisopen.com
Hong Kong Cricket Club Women’s Rugby Team – HKCC Babes
The Hong Kong Cricket Club Women’s Rugby Team (a.k.a. HKCC Babes) is a surprisingly diverse group of ladies with a common focus – to make friends and annihilate the opposition!
Rugby is a tough physical and mental game and we are serious about performing our best, both individually and as a team. We train and work hard together to achieve that. Competing, and hopefully winning, is HKCC Babes’ main motivation and guiding ambition.
But when the final whistle blows, we also believe that rugby is a social sport… and there’s no better way to meet fun people and establish friendships (sometimes for life) than by joining in, boots and all. HKCC Babes is a team where diversity really works. We come from many different countries, professions and levels of experience in rugby, yet we get on together as a tight-knit team, on and off the pitch.
The Hong Kong Cricket Club also provides amazing support and facilities for the team both for training and social opportunities. Our active, rolling social calendar makes it easy for new comers to join-in and to get to know everyone. If you like the sound of all this and enjoy taking the rough with the smooth, why not contact us to learn more?

Wheel Envy
Amidst the construction mess along the new Central waterfront the ‘wheel of envy’ is beginning to emerge… Our ever observant politicians and the skilled marketers of the HK Tourist Board finally saw that lots of cities – not least Singapore and Shanghai – had cottoned onto the success of the London Eye and built their own, highly successful equivalent, 160m+ observation wheel.
We want one of those was the cry! But rather than take the interesting option and build a 160m+ wheel on the dead space that is the old Kai Tak – and draw tourists and businesses to the area. As well as offer a unique view of Hong Kong and the harbour… and an attractive reason for more cruise ships to stop at the empty terminal. No let’s put a mini-wheel jammed full of gondolas smack in the middle of Central. Instead of a iconic wheel soaring over Kowloon and making a statement. We have a 60m wheel dwarfed by the surrounding buildings…
