As part of the Food Expo, European Meat hosted a cocktail party with The Association of Butchers and Producers of Processed Meat of the Republic of Poland, The Polish Chamber of Commerce HK and the Polish Association of Butchers and Charcuterie to raise awareness of the quality of Polish meat. They also served up a delightful section of hot and cold Polish dishes, so tasty that the question is – why isn’t there a Polish restaurant in Hong Kong?

August’s Freespace Happening @ West Kowloon took place amidst sweltering temperatures, high pollution and an incoming storm… That didn’t deter a fair sized crowd from turning up to watch the skateboard jam competition, enjoy the live music, explore the craft stalls and sample the pop-up healthy food stands. Something a little different to do on a Sunday afternoon. The next Freespace Happening is on 13th September, entry is free.

A couple of hundred yoga lovers gathered in the cramped confines of the main stage at the Lai Yuen carnival for the second OmfestHK. With the popularity of the inaugural event and the wide open grass spaces of Tamar a few steps away the organisers choice of a 30x30m piece of tarmac was a strange one, the area was far too small. Blur rocked a sold-out HKCEC Hall 5 with a selection of greatest hits and tracks from their new album The Magic Whip – written in Hong Kong after the bands last concert here in 2013. The album is full of astute observations about life in in the SAR, but there is something a little bit extra special hearing live songs and tales about your home. If there was one complaint, the gig was not even two hours, so many great songs unplayed… Thanks for coming Blur, see you again soon luv Hong Kong!

A patriotic and boisterous sold-out Mongkok Stadium had much to cheer as Hong Kong strolled past Bhutan seven goals to nil to get their World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start. Jaimes McKee open the scoring and his team-mates joined him on the score sheet at regular intervals. Only poor finishing kept the score from reaching double figures as Hong Kong totally outplayed the team 5 places above them in the Fifa world rankings.
Hundreds of fans were turned away as the stadium sold out just after 6pm. What the crowd thought of China’s Fifa racist insults of Hong Kong was pretty obvious as the ‘National’ anthem was drowned out by boos and loud cheers of Hong Kong. As one of the many signs hanging in the stadium said Hong is Not China
Hong Kong’s next match is against The Maldives at Mongkok Stadium, 8pm 16 June – tickets on sale now.
