One Direction “On the Road Again Tour 2015” Live in Hong Kong – 18 March, 2015

One Direction “On the Road Again Tour 2015” Live in Hong Kong - 18 March, 2015

Exciting news – not, the completely dire One Direction hit Hong Kong to milk local fans for every dollar. The concert’s not until March 2015, yet the 13,500 tickets go onsale next month at prices from $3,488 to $988 adding some $20million to the concert promoters bank balance. According to Sony UK’s Chief Executive Nick Gatfield back in 2012 the 1D (as fans refer to the band) cash cow was worth GBP50million. It’s probably trebled since then as the record company and the band’s management have ruthlessly monetised social media to cash in on teenage girls and their adoring parents who can’t object to the bands clean cut, wholesome, whiter-than-white, middle class parent friendly pop: cute boys advocating puppy love.

One can only hope that unlike Rihanna’s awful lip-sync show One Direction will actually sing live, be on stage on-time (unlike Justin Bieber) and give the crowd some midnight memories worthy of the ticket price.

The 1D VIP package costs $1200 more than the top price seat – and for $3,488 you’d think it’d include a meet and greet…but no it doesn’t. For the extra $1200 you get a 1D watch (with pouch!) and a laminated card on a lanyard – whoopee fucking do!

Je Dance Toujours – 8pm, 30 April, 2-3 May 2014

Je Dance Toujours - 8pm, 30 April, 2-3 May 2014

A winter’s night in 1942, a young woman bends over a typewriter waiting for a fellow resistance fighter, her name is Claire. She doesn’t utter a word. The man she is waiting for has not come, as he usually does every evening, to dictate to her his clandestine messages. She should go, leave the flat which may already be surrounded. But Claire stays. She knows it’s almost time. She writes the woman she will not be, the life she would have loved to tell, one day…

The HK Theatre Association Ltd present a one-woman poetic stage play staring Emilie Guillot on the French Resistance with physical theatre, performed in French with English subtitles.

Record Store Day – 19 April, 2014

Record Store Day – 19 April, 2014

Now in it’s seventh year Record Store Day is a celebration of the culture of the independently owned record store… an antiquated notion perhaps to those only familiar with buying music via iTunes or downloading. Yes it’s a blatant plug to sell more records especially in recent years as the major labels flood the market with exclusive RSD editions only available on the day and in limited numbers… However despite the growing backlash and cynicism Record Store Day still serves its purpose to remind us that stores exist and there’s great music to be found there. So take a wander along to your local record store and browse and see what takes your ear. While everyday is a good day to buy music Saffron in Sheung Wan have live music, promotions and discounts while any excuse to peruse the vinyl at White Noise Records in Prince Edward is a good one.
